List of Follow Focus compatible with Sony PL Lens

I also tried the Genus Superior and found it not to work, so switched to Genus Bravo, which does work nicely. I am sure there are a lot better ff but for $500 it seems smooth. It will be interesting to learn what others are using.

Hello
I am trying to find a follow focus that will work with the Sony Pl lens
I am only interested in 15mm lightweight Follow Focus.
For a certain follow focus to be qualified you woud have to keep the rod in the standard position (for mattbox purposes)

i actually have the Genus Superior Follow Focus and it does not qualified for the task.
What are you using ?
People don't seem to understand what you meantIMG_7222.jpgIMG_7224.jpg. I had to rig something up to use my RED 18-85mm with an O'Box.
I think that the Cinevate and the Arri Lightweight Follow Focus LFF-1 are the only ones that may work.

Oliver,

Our microFollowFocus | Blue is confirmed working with the F3 and the Sony Primes. With hardstops, a whole new backlash adjustable gear box, and studio upgrade option, it's a great value.
It has been getting some great reviews as well, including Brook Aitken who said, "The new FF Blue is really worthy of more than just DSLR use, something the pros can rely on with cinema lenses."

Cheers,

Loren Simons

Are you confirming that it works with the rails set at the standard 15mm LW separation?

EDIT: I just saw the picture and it doesn't look that it is even close to fitting. You only have about 1/4" gap between the rails and the lens. At least with my RED 18-85mm, but the Sony lenses are almost as wide as the RED.

Douglas,

Sorry, I thought you were looking at a setup with our unit and the Sony PL's, my mistake.

I was referring to the Sony PL lenses (the 35mm 50mm and 85mm) which I believe was Oliver's original question. I've used our | Blue with a microSupportBaseplate and microMatteBox successfully with the F3/Kit lenses before. As did Jonny Revolt in the production of The Ghost of Goodnight Lane.

Hi Loren,
The question remains. Is your rails to Matte Box standard 15mm LW or does it seat higher with your Matte Box. The picture from the Ghost of Midnight Lane looks like it seats higher, but it is hard to tell. Have you tried it with an ARRI or O'Connors Matte Box?

Douglas,

I see what you're saying, and it's a good question. I'll grab some measurements with the F3 tomorrow and report back with 100% assurance.

Douglas and Oliver,

I have confirmed that the microFollowFocus | Blue does work with the Sony PL Primes in 15mm L/W configuration (i.e. 85mm). By flipping the drive gear to the opposite side of the unit (which does NOT reverse the pull so no worries there) it clears it.

Oliver,

If you are considering the unit shoot me a PM and we can talk a bit more about it and I'll show you the easy process of flipping the unit. I also like to take care of my fellow DVXusers.

In the video Jonny describes everything well. The only difference is that instead of doing that modification on the matte box, we now raise the camera to be the standard 85mm on our baseplate, as opposed to raising the matte box.

Hi Oliver,
i use Zeiss CP.2 an d Nikon 24-70 and 80-200. Iried out during weeks Arri MFF-1, Chrosziel and Denz.
For me there is no discussin, arri is the absolute favorite on, but the most expensive. It is solid rock construcked with perfect smooth movements.

advantages:
1. you can put away arri from 15mm rods without moving the matte box (chrosziel can not, Denz can too)
2. you can change the lense with only one "klick" an arri
3. arri is in each direction movable very easily
4. the best thin is you can store 2 focus positions with 2 knobs (blue and red) which helps a lot when you want to focus 2 objekt without looking for correct fokus in your viewfinder

After having tested all 3 above ,i gave back Chrosziel and Denz.
My recommendation is, try out arri MFF-1 before you by one.

Klaus
