List of DVX-100 models

Hello members of this forum. I signed up today because I'm hoping to get into the world of DVX by buying one very soon. But to do this I have to get some things cleared. So here I am with my first post.

Now before I explain what is confusing me, I have to let you know that I DID use the search (tough with google) option first and DID read a lot of existing topics about almost the same 'problem'. But that has got me more confused since everyone says something else.

As you know, and as I discovered on my quest to buy a DVX, Panasonic has named his DVX line-up models different depending on region etc. So, I came across DVX-100AE's and DVX-102A's for instance.. This was-is so confusing I really didn't know what camera I was suppose to focus on. Actually I still do not know.

So these are the names I came across:

AG-DVX 100
AG-DVX 100A
AG-DVX 100B
AG-DVX 100AE
AG-DVX 100BE
AG-DVX 102A(?)
AG-DVX 102AE(?)
/edit include:
AG-DVX 102AEN
AG-DVX 100BE

BUT as far as I know Pana only has 3 models:
The 100, the 100A and the 100B

So there are about two names involved for one model, but which one is which?? This question really gives me a headache..

This is what I found globally:

AG-DVX 100 (PAL&NTSC) = AG-DVX 100AE (ONLY PAL?), /edit include: = AG-DVX 102AEN
AG-DVX 100A (PAL&NTSC) = AG-DVX 102A (ONLY PAL?)
AG-DVX 100B (PAL&NTSC) = AG-DVX 100BE (ONLY PAL?)

Is this right? If so, what about the 102AE? or the 100BE?

I came across to an advertisement at the local marketplace of a DVX-100AE.. If it's a 100A I will buy it, if it's the 100 I will not. (Or should I?)

Thanks in advance, and let's get this thing cleared out for once and for all.

BTW, I apologize for my bad English

/edit 1:
So after I posted this I went to google again and I found out that there is another model name: DVX-102AEN. This happens to be the exact same cam as the DVX-100AE..
I googled again and it seems that there is another model name: DVX-100BE.. do not know which one this is... *getting tired..

And now I found this topic:

http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=78193

Here in South-east Asia, my PAL camera is called 102AEN, the newer one is called 102BEN.

So that's more names... but in that topic nobody explained exactly which 2nd model names belongs to the "main"- model name..

In this second post I will put my "clean" list. The list in the first is just a guess and the information given does not have to be correct. However the list in this post is, for me, the right list.

It seems:

DVX MODEL NAMES

100 --> Global name for first model of the AG-DVX100 series

100 A --> Global name for second model of the AG-DVX100 series
100 AE --> Specific name DVX100 A for Europe
100 AN --> Specific name DVX100 A for North America

DVX100 B --> Global name for third model of the AG-DVX100 series
DVX100 BE --> Specific name DVX100 B for Europe
DVX100 BN (or BEN) --> Specific name DVX100 B for North America

Everything with 102 --> Specific names for Asia, these models are the same as the PAL models for Europe.

(btw I used a list I found, written in French at repaire.net (no ad, found the list via google)

Yeah but that is the point. There are only 3 main models BUT they are referred to with more than one. Picking one of them is not enough.. If I come across a name that I do not know of I CAN'T get the model I desire.. And the problems starts there..

100, 100A, 100B = DVX models. 100 = the original, 100A = second-generation, 100B = third generation.

Suffix of "E" means Europe. Same camera, but PAL version instead of NTSC.

102 = DVX100 but PAL for Asia/Australia/New Zealand. Usually has "EN" suffix, instead of "E", but it's the same.

So there are three cameras (100, 100A, 100B) available in three territories (100=US, 100E = Europe, 102EN = Asia/Oceania).

When I got my DVX, it read: "AG-DVX100BP" on the box. i believe that the US models (at least the B models) have a P to designate them as NTSC.

Exactly.. but it is hard just assuming this because not everyone is known of all the pieces of the puzzle... and in that case it is just hard to logically say that the names are region based. I've been very busy finding out all the pieces of the puzzle.. and now I am aware of them, it makes just perfect sense..

So with this topic I hope the googlers and researchers and also the people who begin having interests in de DVX series will find the list and stop worrying about which model is which..

(BTW, just based on logic.. I'm assuming freely that 102A stands for an Asian model for DVX-100A, right?)

@David Jimerson: Why do I want the E? Can't I just buy a 102? Is there any difference because as far as I know Asia is a PAL region too?
