I know your all pry sick of watching wedding video stuff but I just shot my first wed video with the 100a. I had the 100 before but upgraded. I shot it in squeez mode with 30p and clinelike D gamma. It just amazed me how good this camera reproduces colors and how much better the lattitude is with the cinegamma turned on. These wedding videos should get bumped up to 3k now! ha ha

by the way if the bride looks sad or like she isn't having fun, it's because she got in a car accident the day before and broke her collarbone. :'(

Re: lil wed intro.... dvx100a 30p

hey, thanks for sharing man. i thought you did a great job. , and thats the first wedding vid ive seen where people look like they are having fun, and enjoying the day, rather than ready to pop a blood vessle in their head from the stress.

Re: lil wed intro.... dvx100a 30p

Very nice footage. I am waiting to do my first wedding with my new DVX. All in the past have been on S-VHS. Barf :-[.

Liked the music (Enya?) with the Nat. sound. But that brings me to the ugly question of copyright. What do you (and other wedding shooters) do about sync rights. I use popular music but have yet to get anyone to give me the time of day to get permission. Maybe they don't care about the pennies they would get from wedding video use, but I would like to be fair.

Anyway, great intro. Can't wait for my next wedding shoot

yes it was to enya and yes it is illegal to use copyrighted music. Hopefully this post does not stir up a big debate on it. My view on the matter is it is going to a very very small audience and i do not believe that you will get in trouble for weddings and small events. But on the other hand corporate type work, that is where you get into trouble. You must always use royalty free music on large dist sources.

Re: lil wed intro.... dvx100a 30p

Yeah, I'm pretty much up on copyright issues (had to study them in school) and I agree with you. I don't think 2 or 3 tapes of a wedding constitutes copyright infringement, at least to the intent of the laws. Certainly don't want to stir up a debate. That was done ad nauseum with Matt's Uninvited video. Just wanted some other views to soothe my own conscience.

Thanks

Re: lil wed intro.... dvx100a 30p

this was edited on Canopus Edius 2.0 with the DVStorm2 board.  That program for weddings is seriously one of the best I have ever used.  Super stable, and super fast!  It's capture tool has a scene detect that breaks the clips up automatically whenever you turn the cam on and off.  It doesn't have to analyze the tape either before it captures.  It does it perfect every time too.  You'd almost think i'm a canopus rep  ha ha (i'm really not And FYI, ALL was realtime absolutely no Rendering! Even realtime output.

Re: lil wed intro.... dvx100a 30p

You're the first person I've come across who uses Edius. Was the titling done in Edius, too?

Re: lil wed intro.... dvx100a 30p

Yes, all the titling was done in edius. Edius 2.0 now uses the full Title Motion by Inscriber. It is a very powerful titler and supposedly we will be able to update to the pro version...

Re: lil wed intro.... dvx100a 30p

Video images looks good, except... few things I noticed... each cut seems like it's very evenly distributed throughout the video. Almost like a generic, scripted cut list, telling the computer to make a cut every 7 seconds or so. This makes it look somewhat sterile. Also... I'm sure the preparation on the day of the wedding is very hectic and energetic. The camera moves you used is more suitable for slow-mo clips. But since each clip is at 100% speed, to me it clashes with the slow camera movement you used.

I ask them to provide the music (usually the bride does). I use THEIR CD that THEY purchased and give them back their CD. So I feel like I'm out of the loop. I tell them in the initial conversation that they will be providing the music and have never had a problem. I keep no "stock songs," and this hasn't been a problem.

I liked your work on this one. I especially liked the shot of the bride in color with the background in B&W(how did you do it?). Was this standard 30p with autofocus? Nice work.

great stuff. it's very nice and pleasant to look at. got the whole "tension before wedding" mood down.

We should take a poll to see how many wedding videographers get lucky with one of the brides maids

hmmm. I don't know many wedding videographers who have the time on a wedding day???

my comment on the video--

many people ( women, brides, etc.) say they want "documentary style," but most just WANT TO LOOK GOOD. I never show video of people with very little or no makeup. How many women do you know who won't even go out of the house without lipstick or mascara or coverup? Bridal preps is actually a hard thing to do to the point that the bride enjoys seeing herself in the video. ? I'm sure I could have said it nicer, but just my opinion.

It's very good, but seems long to me, considering you'll have to fit a little bit of the groom getting ready, the whole ceremony, and all the recpetion stuff into one DVD. I just put a wedding DVD together and I think I only put about 45 seconds of the bride prep stuff into my final cut. The whole DVD was about an hour and a half, which was way too many gigabytes for a 4.7GB DVD, and I hate compressing too much because I hate losing quality...but I guess that's a whole different topic.

kbainter,

I thought that was nicely done....I also liked the music choice. I too had a question on the legalities for wedding vids.

How did you do that effect where only their face was colored and the rest black & white?

Thanks
