Lightning Video - Real or Not?

Here are two clips that originated from me, I had to put a last project together over the last few hours in order to pass all my modules before graduation day. Whats left is a report which needs survey answers.


I want you to answer, which clip you think is fake, which clip you think is real, or if you think both are fake or both are real.

I would also like your reasoning as such.

Regardless of think fake or real, I would also like an answer if you think the lightning in either or both clips looks good or bad, and why.

Sorry for the poor youtubedness quality.

I'm out the door with no time to answer in detail, but I think the 1st clip looks fake and the 2nd clip looks real. If clip #2 is fake, nice reflection on the water.
 
One looks fake, two looks real. Clip one looks like a pulsating circle to me. The second one has more atmosphere. It's not a perfect circle, parts are cut off (masked?). It looks better.
 
Clip 1 looks fake. The 'lightning' just looks like a circular flash, and no reflection whatsoever on the water.
Clip 2 looks real, and looking at it closely I think it probably is. There's a flash along with actual lightning , and the reflection of it on the water and shoreline makes it look way more realistic.
 
I thought the same as everyone else for the exact same reason, the way it lit up the atmosphere. The first one looked like a ball.

Although both of them light up the tree line pretty nicely (with sections of the tree line lighting up a different areas and slightly off from the other), to the point where I'm thinking they may both be real.

What's this for, and will you give us the answer afterwards?
 
The first one is ILM at its early stages.

The second one is done by Jarred Land.

My conclusion is both could be fake. :)
