Lighting

Hi everyone, I recently got back from Ethiopia where we filmed quite a bit in people's homes in remote villages. We purchased a gas lamp to use it as extra light that would not appear out of place with a more 'natural' feel. does anyone has any stories, examples or light source ideas for similar situations? Best, Brenda

so what are you asking?
did you want to know if there is a way to light a scene like a fire lamp in the room?
or are you asking people how to light a room without power source)??

He's asking people to share stories of their own creative lighting without resources.

I can't think of any with lighting, but when we didn't have a boom or mic stand one day I put one together with a clip, broom handle, duct tape and egg crate. Looked terrible, but got the job done and we didn't have to go home for the day.

By (10 ft.) bonfire, you could call it a... warm look.
Also camping gas lantern + campfire.

Can you share some clips from Ethiopia?

Once did a shoot where we had to bounce daylight off of a polished serving tray to light the subjects faces.
Guy stood at the window aiming the reflection as best he could.
That was quite amusing, and actually worked very well.

Yeah..please share clips from there :)

I've done a number of shots lit exclusively with my maglight. They don't look the best, but it looks a thousand time better than if I had used gain. It also gave it a nice spooky look because you could only see what the light was pointing at.
