i just got some 28" florecent lights (12$ each at home depot!) that i have been screwing around with. i ended up with a short of all the wires in my bedroom. I tried lighting each set of wires a different way. anyway.. heres the result:

Re: Lighting test short: 'wires'

your short was very touching and emotional.. made me cry :-[

never knew wires could be so sad

lighting looks decent.. you colour correct?

Re: Lighting test short: 'wires'

Very interestin and nice concept. Although, one of the pans was a little rough. Also, all the shots were exposed really well, until the last shot (which was overexposed on purpose). If you had a few overexposed scattered around the video that might be better. Right now the last shot kind of stands out and doesn't fit with the rest of the video.

But overall I thought it looked great and music worked well. Thanks LuzCruz I will never look at wires again the same way.

Re: Lighting test short: 'wires'

good eyes lloyd.. i got so involded in the lighting that i forgot to set the white balance for each shot. i color corrected a little bit.. just used levels and color curves in vegas. i didnt know wires could be so sad either.. ill try to make something happy next time.. well.. the next time after next time :)

thanks pk.. i thought ALL the pans were rough.. on a scale of 1 to 10 i give my tripod a 1. but the purpose was to check out the lighting.. so i wont take it outside and throw it in a river. next time though.. if it acts like that.. i swear to god...

anyways thanks for the input!

Re: Lighting test short: 'wires'

LuzCruz, I like the gummo Icon. Umm what was the name of the group that made the song in this short?

Re: Lighting test short: 'wires'

thanks goober. you a big gummo fan too?

the song is by a one man band called 'reservoir'. the album 'pink machine' fits the tone of the song you heard in the short. its really chill/sad/awesome.

Re: Lighting test short: 'wires'

Umm I like Gummo at but I think I like it as a see it only once kind of film. The director is a bit full of himself, and I think also its a bit on the side of avant gaurd. I just think its trying to say more than it really is kinda art for art's sake and no substance.

Re: Lighting test short: 'wires'

ahah yea, a lot of people i talk to say the same thing

i agree the director is a bit full of himself, but i dont think its devoid of substance. its saturated with symbolism, which does tend to teeter on the 'art for arts sake' edge. but i thought the commentary on the town spawned substance throughout the film, and the psuedo-vignette form brought it together quite nicely/uniquely.

but that genre of film is what i enjoy most, so im way biased :)

Re: Lighting test short: 'wires'

None of the shots really do anything for me except the one of the wires on the (bed?). That realy has a nice sense and mixture of depth of field and lighting. Works well together and sets a tone. So yeah, that's the best shot.

Re: Lighting test short: 'wires'

Luz,

I dont normally cry when I watch these clips but some of those wires looked so sad all twisted up and such, and when I saw that overloaded powerstrip...well that was it. I just broke down. ;)

It was interesting and the lighting overall was ok, I agree that one of the pans was a little rough. But it was pretty creative. Keep it up.

Re: Lighting test short: 'wires'

thanks! i need some need as much lighting practice as i can get. not quite sure what does what yet, but im figuring it out. thanks for the input!

glad i can make people cry :)

Re: Lighting test short: 'wires'

i didn't cry, but I was feeling the mic wires on the mattress.

okay, I cried.
