Lighting in the dark questions?

Hi

I'm wanting to do some filming in a derelict building and forest late at night in pretty much pitch black conditions, with a smoke machine to create a moody atmosphere
i'm looking to hire a generator to power my lights.
I currently have dedo 800w lights
was just wondering if anyone had any advice they could give me
if them three lights will be enough to light up the scene in total blackness
or if any i need to get some more lights etc

any help will be appreciated!

Dan

How large is the area you want to light? I just filmed a very similar scene in a warehouse along with a smoke machine. I ended up using 2 x Coollights CDM-150's and 2 x Coolights LED600's to light my area and provide a pretty dramatic contrast...

one area will be a derelict tunnel, which I have the idea of shining the light directly on the subject matter hoping to create dark shadows

and the other will be in a forest area, perhaps having movement from the characters, maybe running

the idea in question of filming is a mock up zombie trailer with a mish mash of sequences from day to night

is there any pointers on how the camera should be set up as well, with exposure, aperture etc?

thanks

In the forest you may want to use a big HMI to backlight through the trees. Combined with the smoke it could look very cool.
