Lighting for edit suite

I’ve read a lot about creating an edit suite with gray walls and 5900k bulbs. I tried GE refresh daylight bulbs, but they drive me crazy. They look so blue to my eye. What are you guys using for bulbs in your lights?

I saw this recommendation:

6500k Everywhere – no matter the light fixture, everything in the room should be the same color temp – 6500k. Having the same lighting everywhere will keep you from creating a mixed lighting environment and competing with the white point of your monitor.

I went with the refresh lights because they are closer to that compared to warmer tungsten lights, but I hate them. Very blue.

Just wanting to see if you guys found bulbs that work for you. I’ll probably just stick with warmer lights that I am used to. I’ve been doing that for years and all of my work on tv looks good.

It sounds and looks plausible. Why wouldn't you follow it?

You can use "standard" (i.e. non daylight) spotlight bulbs on your console in a post room environment but they need to be dimmed down extensively to not compete with the monitor. It's good to have a wash of daylight balanced light against the wall behind the monitor to avoid eye strain, but not brighter than the monitor itself.

You may want to post your question on liftgammagain.com. Lots of professional colorists there with suites setup for this purpose only.
