Lighting for DVX100b-portraits/documentary

Hi. I just bought a DVX100b, Cartoni tripod, Sony lavalier mike and wish to shoot people, in their homes. Should I use the Lowell lights and softboxes that I already have (tungsten balanced) or invest in a florescent tube type lighting that is daylight balanced? By trade, I am a still shooter but am excited about moving into DV. The cooler, daylight balanced lights are attractive to me, such as Wescott "Spider" lights. I would appreciate any input.
In addition, when shooting people, do you all add any softening filtration on the lens or do it post-production. Thanks so much.

Your tungsten lights are probably fine, if you avoid shooting windows and can control daylight coming into the room. If not, it might be handy to have daylight flos around for when you need to mix with daylight. I always have both kinds available, and gels.

A lot of people swear by Tiffen Black ProMist, but I'd play around with the cameras DETAIL settings first to control the sharpening. No use putting diffusion on the lens if the camera is fighting it trying to over-sharpen everything.

Daylight flos?

Daylight flos?

Joshua, thanks for your reply. What daylight flos do you prefer for location work? Thanks.

I don't know about the pro-gear, I'm very low budget, using basically consumer flos from naturallighting.com and other such sources. The flos I use are 98 CRI and 5.6k temp, so they are good specs, but they aren't Kino flos or anything.
