What is the best lighting for shooting scenes in the dark with the DVX 100 at 24p? Distance, watts, and angles. I want it to look like an Hollywood movie.

You don't sound like a jerk. Like Freddy vs Jason. I want to shoot at night and look good.

Hmm, I cant remember specifics about Freddy vs Jason...but as far as I can recall, the night shots were relatively high contrast. A hard light source from behind your subject can give a white (or if you'd like, a coloured) outline, and you can let lots roll into shadows. This way, the audience can clearly *see* everything that's going on, and yet still gets the impression that it's dark (because there are lots of shadows).

For fill lights, consider gelling them a shade of blue, adding more illumination to the information in the image, but still giving the illusion of moonlight, or lack of light.

I can't specifically remember what Freddy vs Jason did with their lighting though, does anybody else remember?

Road to Perdition by Sam Mendes is one worth looking at. Conrad Hall a master of all trades that are in cinematography did one of the greatest jobs lighting the scenes during night. I just rewatched it today and it boosted my motivation to a new level. This movie is so beautiful you will watch it every week.

Road to Perdition.... if there is anything to strive for it's that film. The late great Conrad Hall was a genius, well, and Sam Mendes isn't too shabby either.
