Lightening d90 videos

I've been trying to find an easy way to lighten a video taken by my d90. I initially tried using Virtual Dub but the program couldn't see the Mpg 4 file so I tried to convert the file into an Avi format but Virtual Dub, Windows Movie Maker and Premiere Elements all did not work on either the Mpg or the Avi file.

I was hoping that there was an application that I could use on the original file created by the d90 to lighten the video.

Thanks.:(

From the Nikon D90 brochure:

Movie (specifications):

Image size (pixels) 1,280 x 720/24 fps, 640 x 424/24 fps, 320 x 216/24 fps

File format AVI

Compression format Motion-JPEG, with monaural sound

The file I have is MPEG 4. I uploaded it to Phanfare.com. Is it possible that this site converted the file from AVI to MPEG?

If so, how can I lighten this file?

Thanks.

You no longer have the original?

Quicktime Pro will lighten an MPEG, but it's not sophisticated like Final Cut Pro, Premiere or After Effects.

I do have the original but I'm out of town now and wanted to fix the video in Phanfare. I'll wait until I get home and try using Virtual Dub.

Thanks for your help.
