Light for weddings

I just filmed a wedding with my GH-1, look for an LED light powered by AA batteries. Those frezzies have a belt battery pack that is murder on your back.

I have a Digi-Slave L-Ring 3200 and love it, can shoot in the worse case scenarios when it comes to weddings.

I use a lightpanels micro at weddings and love it. i wont ever go back to anything with a battery pack or incandescent lamps.

how did you find the GH-1 at the wedding.

how does the low light compare to a more standard video camera.

thanks

Honestly it saved us during the reception. We had two HVX's and the GH-1. It was so dark during the reception we stopped filming with the HVX and were just using the on camera light as a fill while I shot with the GH-1.

It's not that the HVX couldn't get an exposure, it just didn't look very good at all, the GH-1 looks great comparatively.

right now I'm shooting with both Canon xh-A1's and HMC-150's and altho i'm getting images they are not close to what i would like to see in low light.

i have added the lightpanels micro, which is great for fast dance/lively dance floor because know one seams to mind the video light at a wild party. but in those romantic, slow dance moments the video light kinda kills the mood and i don't think the guest appreciate it. so i end up with a lot of scowls and squints which kind of defeats the purpose anyway.

I don't suppose you would be willing to pull a still from both the HVX and GH1 and post them up for compare and contrast would you.

as they say the proof is in the pudding

thanks

Yeah we just shot it last weekend so I'm still going through the footage. I plan to post stuff of the footage inter-cut eventually.

Semi-related, what lenses are you using with these lights? If you are using a Nikkor 1.4 that is a lot different than the kit lens, and should have a big impact on the lighting you are using or not using?

What f stop on the GH1 do you find that you really start to need these lights for indoor wedding type events?

Edit: I forgot to add, assuming at least a 60Hz shutter speed.

When it got really dark I was using my zeiss ZF 1.4. Kept it at like 2.4 so as not to be totally wide open shutter at 1/100th .

Thanks for the info! If you don't mind, what ISO setting were you at? I'm presuming that you set the camera such that banding was not a problem and noise was non-obtrusive.

The reason behind my questions is that I am trying to find the most versatile lens that is fast enough for most indoor shooting (both video and stills). Knowing how fast/slow I can get away with helps narrow the selection of options. I know, faster = better, but faster often = spendier too, especially for a multi-purpose lens.

Thanks again in advance.

Howdy

Still interested in your progress if you feel like sharing.

i really need to get something that shoots better in low light than a traditional video camera but just don't think i can deal with 12 min record times of the 5d/7d.

thanks
John

For that mater i would love to see anyones gh1 footage intercut with video from any traditional camera.
