Libec dolly & jib arm

So I'm currently using a Libec RS-450 tripod for my HPX370, but having just a tripod as support is becoming a little limiting and I'm thinking of adding a dolly and/or jib arm into the mix.

With the RS being well regarded, I figured I'd look into Libec's other options, but couldn't find any reviews or recommendations, though I did find a couple of videos on Vimeo here and here.

So, anyone have opinion on this setup or hands-on experience?

I'm not familiar with Libec dollies and jibs but I found myself asking how he did that jib movement with a horizontal pan in the last shot, since that jib hasn't a horizontal rotation axis! Sorry to hijack your thread though.

I've used that jib several times. Haven't used the Libec dolly and track, though.

The LB-30 is a great, compact kit that's easy to balance and smooth to use. And as for the pan in the last shot... the jib is set up for mounting a tripod head to it, so with a bit of careful movement and a very loose pan axis it is possible to pan the camera while moving the jib.

The biggest drawback to this system is that it is small, but that's also an advantage. If you need a jib that goes high, this is not for you. But if you want something that's perfect for interiors with low ceilings, or you just need a touch of the jib movement (which I find suits about 80% of what I'd ever need a jib to do), then it's perfect.

Well, that sounds good to me, I don't think I'd ever want to send the camera up so high that I'd have to use a monitor and remote to make it usable anyway... though it'd make for a pretty sweet setup.

What about in comparison to other jibs? I've also seen products by Varizoom on B&H that seem to be in the same price range.

Bump! So I'm still looking over various options since I'm only getting a jib in April at best, and it would seem that the "Varizoom SnapCrane9" is an interesting alternative to the Libec. Although the kit is $1K more than the JB-30 Heavy Duty Kit, it would seem to me that the Varizoom has a more solid build, supports 30lbs instead of 20, and can also be configured in 2 lengths. Only thing I don't see is how you attach the camera, or do you need some sort of head or adapter?

We've had ~ 5 JB-30 for rental and have had zero issues. They are solid. If you end up going with the LIbec system and want to buy a used kit, I can put one together for you.

Good looking jib. The Libec heavy duty tripods look really good too. Anyone else have any experience with these? They look really great.
