F55: Lexus "Drift Roulette"

I directed/shot this about 3 weeks ago in Las Vegas.

A cam was Alexa, B was my F55. All the jib and handheld stuff was 55...long lens and dolly moves on ground was the Alexa. First two shots were F55, and the car mount on the rear wheel/roulette numbers was F55 as well.

Alexa was LogC, F55 was XAVC S-Log2/S-Gamut. I did a set of dailies in Resolve with ACES on to get the two cams to match quickly, and they would up just using the dailies for the final.

Nice work as always Nate. How do you find the F55's global shutter improves things on these sorts of high-intensity, high-movement shoots?

Shoulda called me up! I live in Vegas!

Heh. I had to take my right-hand man. But we should meet up soon and figure out work-type-stuff

whats in car camera - go pro?

Yeah, we had 7 blacks and a Novo, but didn't use nearly all of them on this.

Thanks! I mean, I dunno, you tell me? The cut goes back and forth between Alexa (non-global shutter) and F55 for a minute. Do *you* see a difference?

I had another Lexus shoot a couple days before where I had a perfectly lateral shot of a car weaving between cones at about 45mph on the Alexa. Because it's perfectly 90º to the car's movement and things are traveling through frame right to left, very fast, you can see the rolling shutter then. That shot I probably should have done with the 55.

Grab below was 45º shutter @60fps (aka 1/240th sec) on Alexa, we were moving faster than the motion blur makes it look.
