FS7: Lexar XQD Cards Breaking

Anyone else experiencing the plastic on the the Lexar XQD cards 2933x chipping off? I'm wondering if it's the cards being cheaply made, something I'm doing, or perhaps the camera (FS7 Mark I) wearing them down. Does this happen to anyone using the Sony cards?

I bought the FS7 on preorder what seems like forever ago. I have bought over 1TB of cards total, about 70% Lexar and 30% Sony. I use the camera and cards as an owner operator as well as for my rental company.

One original Sony card broke so badly, it wouldn't read. Two Sony cards chipped bad enough that I stopped using them and gave them away. One Sony card died electronically after about 3.5 years of use. One Lexar card has chipped plastic but no functionality problems.

So far, Lexars seem to outperform Sony in all the ways that matter to me.

I have 11 Sony XQD's(half at least 3 yrs old) that I use in SxS adapters in my F55 and haven't had any problems with the physical or electronic parts of them(I remove them from the adapters to DL them).

I’ve had 3 Lexar XQD cards and 5 Sony cards. All of the Lexars have shed plastic and only one of the Sony cards has.

R&G: any particular reason you remove the XQD cards for download, as opposed to using the Sony SxS card reader and plugging in the adapter/XQD card combo?

I don't have an SxS card reader. The first batch of XQD's I bought were when Sony still included a USB 3 XQD reader with each card https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1242140-REG/sony_qda_sb1_j_xqd_usb_adapter.html. The readers are fast and just a fraction of the size of the SxS readers, so I can carry a few in the bag with the cards. And we've run into issues DL'ing with them in certain SxS readers, where the DL would hang at the very end. This is the only SxS I've had repeated success with: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1083140-REG/sony_sbac_us30_usb_3_0_sxs_memory.html . Most of the guys I know that shoot with the adapters, generally go the route of removing the cards for DL.

Do you see dents in your cards? I am wondering if the FS7's slot mechanism is causing the damage.

I've had several Lexar cards and one Sony. Never any issues with the Sony, lots of broken plastic on the Lexars (but still usable).
