LeveFly 3-Axis Gimbal - Test and Review

Meh, 3-axis gimbals are so yesterday...

Now I'm thinking more of a 4-axis gimbal version - takes the up and down motion into consideration as well

Bleh, 4-axis gimbals are so 2015. I'm more interested in 5-axis gimbals which can travel through the space-time continuum to correct framing errors & lousy focus pulling.

Bleh - what we need is the model that uses mind control from remote distant locations so we can stay comfy on the couch and make things happen.

All kidding and sarcasm aside, I've decided to stick with my steadicam. For the weight of an Epic or F55 I just don't see this working out that well for long shoots. Maybe its good for certain takes, or under certain circumstances where one is limited by space, etc... but to blow $3000-$5000 on something only needed for occasional use I'd honestly rather throw my 7D on the cheap CAME 3-axis version and call it a day.

For that reason, I'm out.

I've used an Easyrig for long shots. A lot of people have. Might not change your mind but I find it works really well!

I do think easyrig is excellent idea and perhaps makes for an excellent combination with 3-axis gimbal device, and probably quicker learning curve than steadicam to get good results.

Footage looked great!

I agree.

My results were similar. Sometimes I also use post stabilization.

That vid is on real put off. The panning is all over the place way worse than I could do with my Steadicam..
Thats with a Movi. I was simply sharing to show what you could do to take strain off your muscles for longer shots.

I've got mine set up to do Pans myself while operating. I've come up with smoother pans.

a good test for a gimbal is too run down the street as fast as you can. if it stays pretty stable then it is set up right. We;ve thrown everything we could at this gimbal and it stays rock solid. this is the OST Steady V2.

The joystick was a little rough but we had a defective one, sent it bakc and now it is working properly. Anyway, you never see raw footage tests like this from other gimbal vendors stough and when you do it is all over the place.

hood gimbal, rock solid performance at a good price.

... DJI Ronin gimbal for 3k.
...
will take a 16 lb payload.
...
david

Unfortunately the DJI Ronin is 10lbs bare bones - as in without a camera/monitor system. Most Carbon Fiber systems are half of that with MoVi being around 4lbs.
Still a great unit for the pricepoint - and was definitely considering it myself until I rethought what I would be shooting on most of the time.

I'm a smaller guy and having shot for 2 days with a MoVi M5 + SmallHD + 5D3 + 24-105L - I see how overall gimbal weight could become a concern for myself.

That being said, I would love to try the DJI Ronin to see how much it would alter my opinion though!
