LeveFly 3-Axis Gimbal - Test and Review

I'll likely be around Haines for about a month. And they do make them to work with FS700's. Though I'm yet to try one on the Gimbal itself.

Nice, that's pretty close to me, I'm in Juneau. Let me know when you are going to be there,
I may just take a quick ferry trip over to check it out.

Anyone know of a good, cheap (and compact) gimbal stand for balancing? All of the ones I'm seeing are $150-300. I need something tabletop sized for a G2.

Quick update here, as I wanted to wait a few weeks to give the unit some time. Sent the unit back for adjustments, but it's still not working. At all. Very disappointing. Flipping it on with the FS700 simply results in wildly erratic movements, and adjustments in SimpleBGC aren't working -- totally unusable.

FWIW, Andre has been extremely communicative, and service was very quick, but unfortunately the unit just doesn't work, and certainly doesn't come 'pre-configured.' I'll update here if I do manage to get it working, but at this point, I'm extremely concerned I'm stuck with a real lemon.

Are you balancing before using it? I'm running a RED on mine and it works unless I make extreme movements. Resetting it is as simple as using the power button.

Check out the Movi training series on their Vimeo. That helped me a TON!

Anyone here heard of, or considering the Allsteady 7? Movi design, but for $3k and can handle up to 18lbs on top model version.

**Edit: $3k does not handle 18lbs from my understanding - but my understanding is still evolving.

I haven't used a movi-type rig yet, but any feedback from someone with actual experience using one with +15lbs rigs on realistically how difficult it gets to used over prolonged periods? I have to imagine a couple days shooting with this would build biceps of steel.

Hi
I used a Movi with RED Epic for 8 days production.
The combination was so heavy that its hard to hold it for more than a minute. and i was practically shaking at the and of shots.
I think that in the future i will use Gimbals only with lightweight cameras like DSLR, and Blackmagic.

A game changer...... for our work out routine.

I've used cheesy steadicam rigs for compact cameras back in the 90's, they were the ones you held it out with one arm and used the other to move the gimble. It was a workout to try and get a 30 second shot of the skyline through the trees. That camera was 5lbs.

I am starting to think this would be more suited for DSLR and very short takes, or you put a team of operators on a bench and rotate them.

Definitely. I used a glidecam not too long ago, and it was a challenge. Always end up doing more takes than we expect, and it is hard to keep up. On the other hand, these light cameras are so easy to use all day on a steadicam pilot or action cam raptor. Horses for courses.

This is why I chose a Defy G2 + BMPCC combo over G5/BMPC.

I did some math, and the latter combo (while lighter than Movi + Epic) would be too much weight & too cumbersome for my "indie" projects where I'm director/DP for a full day.

I am however interested in combining a 3-axis gimbal with steadicam vest / arm, and/or jib arm for heavier setups. That could work better.

As someone who regularly uses the Gimbal, and with power am pushing close to 15 lbs, you definitely benefit from exercising. I workout weekly and even then still get sore.

It's more of a shoulder, trap, forearm and back use though. My biceps and triceps never seem to be bothered. Having a good core strength and good posture makes it easier to fly longer.
