Hello,

well now I started a thread about our movie.
Hope nobody finds out that we don't conform to the rules.
Are we disqualified now? Would be nice to stay in the competion, although I guess we won't even get a t-shirt…

Albeit our movie is in German and has subtitles.
It plays in a research center in Germany, which has an old nuclear research reactor; and yes they allowed us to film there. Our team was pretty big (around 25 ppl) and we had a focus dolly and some nine halogens. (about 6 kw).
I hope you all like it:))

Cheers,
Patrick

Well I was pissed because it crashed every time I tried to play it. All other QT files went fine but your crapped out after 2 seconds of play. So I gave it a 2, for the 2 seconds. Sorry dude.

Patrik, it was weel shot, some of it, and sometimes, even in german, I have to say the acting did not convince me...

Albeit it not conforming to the rules (By a fair ammount!), it has no ending?! I didn't get why it stopped? It's already longer than in can be, and it seems it crashes in the middle (instead of just ending).

I love your location and story, it had a sort of a "Half Life" feel to it... And cinematography is solid, as is camera directing, really, I can tell you guys know what you are doing. Write a shorter script next time, dude, and with an end, and you might have something...

Pröst!

Hi Patrick,
You're not disqualified, because we accidentally lost some entry information (including yours) so I couldn't contact you to ask for a smaller version. I tried to work with anyone who was having encoding issues, so i just decided to keep you in the mix.

Hey Barry, just to clarify, the video is 7 and so minutes long, so it is not just an encoding thing.

Still I'd be perfectly cool to let them in the contest... I think some stuff in it is real cool.

Ok, well that would be a problem if it's one of the top films, but for now I'm leaving it in the rotation. The time thing slipped by me.

Hey
I couldnt view it either. Sucks you went through a lot of work only for it not to be scene by several of us. I hope you had fun making it.. Im with coffee on this one and with all the others that didnt work..
Brian

Yep, couldn't view it. Could hear the sound JUST long enough before it crashed that it was a foreign film, but that's about it.

So now you've got me curious with your opening comment on this thread. Did you PURPOSEFULLY not "conform to the rules" and still expect/hope that you could be in the competition?? With that, I'd be pretty ticked that you're still in the competition, but I think most everyone on here that did stay within the rules won't rate the film very high because of the length not to mention being unable to view it ... so I'm not too worried about the outcome.

Hi,

sorry that the movies crashes…
I'm just not the best at encoding. I tried encoding all night, decided to go with XVid, but the encoder was crap and crashehd and produced sometimes files that were by 8 times to big. XVid for Mac seems to have definitely a problem.

I recommend using VLC and I know a lot of ppl won't even install that just because a bunch of not working movies…

Well the script isn't very good, I know. My part was only "cinematography", organising and spending money:/

Cheers,

Patrick

Hey patrick, cinematography was really solid! Don't feel bad about spending the money, get some of the money shots, but them MOS over a music bed in your reel toghether with your other stuff, and it was worth it!

cool!
"cinematography is solid"
thanks for this one!
:)
and thanks everyone for viewing.
yeah, VLC will work, both on pc and mac

btw: the movie was edited with Final Cut Pro 5 with my little ibook
we only used halogen light (a few kws), no daylight at all (except for some windows)
further I used a homemade stedicam-rig (about 17kg in weight) and a "focus dolly" delivered by MBF film rental in Frankfurt; the budget was all in all about $1200 (1000 Euro)

Cheers,
Patrick

it worked with the VLC . I was interupted way too many times while viewing . I'll try a little later , looked good from what I saw .I'll comment more later

I finally watched it again . Good setting . nice camera work etc . besides being too long , there wasn't any Zombies , I was waiting for the kill and ZIP!!. I also found the story to end too abruptly. Great idea , Great setting , sorry , I felt cheated on this one ....Ian

Arrr…
Yeah, you can´t actually see them…
We had some zombies in mind, we even filmed some stupid zombies and zombie scenes.
But when we edited it, we found out, that it didn´t work. It wasn´t necessary. And it made the movie more compelling, more "thrilling"…
If you want, I can post some hard case zombie pics.
Also, Dr. Warewski is the the father of the Zombies, you can see him pretty often…
And… in the end, you can see a (dead) zombie.

Patrick

Again disqualified?
I hope you all enjoy the movie on the DVD. I had to re-edit the subtitles and added credits for the DVD. The music is also of better quality:)

Not to sound like a COMPLETE jerk for asking/stating this, but is this even going to be ON the DVD? I had the impression that the DVD was for films that were in the festival.

Since it seems like nearly all rules were disregarded by your team when producing this (i.e. length of film, compression size, and lack of zombies ... as in UNDEAD ... a dead zombie's no different than any other dead creature/human), this technically should probably have never been allowed to post for judging/competition.

If you think we do not deserve it, well then we don't want any prices (incl. T-Shirt)…
But please let us stay on DVD;)

I think, we don't do films to show everything like it is. The movie must feature and be about the Undead, not show them all the time. It is pretty obviously, that our actors aren't just running away for fun…
How often do you really see the murderer in one of Hitchcock's movies? And sure the movie is all about them!

I don't want to sink this into a compression discussion but....If you have FCP5 why not just use the quicktime presets on export? Its such a pain to install another player to watch this.
