Letus35 Extreme

Barry, anytime you'd like to borrow a rig for testing, we'll be happy to overnight one to you. As I recall, the last time we were unable to make your deadline for the XH-A1 review, but a lot has changed. We can have a full rig (including the full CINEFUSE collection), PL mount, and carbon rails system there overnight. Given your enthusiasm for testing and background knowledge, I think you'd enjoy the experience :-)

Wow, a very generous offer. Thanks, Dennis! I'd like to take you up on that, perhaps when the flip is ready and I'm done with the current projects -- maybe mid/late October?

Letus Extreme available for demo in NYC

Letus have been kind enough to provide a Letus35 Extreme for those of you in the New York City area to check out.

If you would like to check it out, PM me and we can get together. I will also have a "demo day" with my HVX200 / Letus Extreme / Canon FD lenses package in the next two weeks. It will probably be at B&H (420 9th Ave) after they come back from holiday.

Barry, mid to late October would work just fine for us. Being that the HVX is the most popular cam for our users, I suspect you'll be right at home with the system.

2 questions:
- how easy/fast is setting up the letus EX? how does it compares to Brevis?
- will it work in a HV20 without vignetting?

Thanks!

From Quyen himself:

- Will Letus EX work with HV20 without vignetting?
There will be no vignetting.

- How long would it take setting Letus Ex each time you need it?
Set up will be less than 5 minutes (also depending on the rail system you have)

So, will I wait for Letus EX vs Brevis comparison or just pull the trigger...?

Regards

The biggest pain in the butt about the old Letus was that dust would get on the mirrors and it would be laborious to clean and could take mulitiple tries. With the Extreme's prism technology, this is not an issue. Mirrors have been done away with. If dust eventually gets on the ground glass, it can be cleaned very quickly by removing three screws, using some forced air and you are done. Much better and more efficient than the old system.

Great Thread, and seems like a defining product. Just one question.. Any plans for Leica M mount lenses??

BTW awaiting delivery and in line # 281

I just read all 22 pages in a row, that's how interesting and informative this thread has been. I'm not even speaking in the context of the Extreme; I just learned a whole lot about adaptors, lenses, etc. just by reading this thread, haha.

I can't wait to grab one of these for myself one day...

I noticed that a whole lot of folks seem to be ordering the Extreme and I plan to do the same next week when I have the cash. I would need this for a project going into production in mid November. My Question is do you think I would be completely out of luck with all the current orders? (over 300)

Hey Ram, how do you know there are over 300? I am #288, but when I bought my FE three weeks ago, I was like #194 or something. I think each one is numbered consecutively regardles of the model. My guess is they've sold about 75 units (still not freakin' bad!).

I guess I just assumed that the numbers represent reservation numbers, honestly I really hope I'm wrong because I'm very excited about the extreme and I really want to use it. Had already decided in the M2 before the extreme was announced and I remembered how Barry liked he FE so much before h found a flaw so this announcement was great to me.

3 digit order numbers are from AdapterPlace.com
5 digit order numbers are from LetusDirect.com

Anyone who ordered from LetusDirect.com can contact me at any time for updates. PM me or use the contact form on LetusDirect.

Chan, I sent you a PM with updated info.

I have a curious question about the Letus Extreme.

Why the warm color cast?

I know I can white balance it out, but white balancing thru something that warm actually causes increased noise, I can only imagine how much more this would be exaggerated when shooting under 3200K lighting. Is this a result of the prism your using? Also, if you have any control over it, I would suggest a sleight magenta cast instead, mainly because white balancing thru that would decrease noise in the image.
