Letus35 Extreme

Odd how when I called I was told I wouldn't see a difference....

Grrr...

Even if its a little different from what I see the Economy is way way better than the FE because of its better glass and all that. If its got everything the same besides those few things, how much of a better buy is it? I'm curious.

- Kyle

So the FE is a good choice that has its quirks, the Economy has the core of the Extreme minus the condensor, and the Extreme is the more polished product.

FE < Economy < Extreme

Really the only thing I think would be different in picture quality would be a small sharpness difference right? I guess it just sucks a bit for me because by the time I can afford an adapter it'll be at that 1500 mark. That + rails+ a simple 50mm lens is gonna cost upwards of 1800 dollars. I know its worth the money but if I can get pretty close to the Extreme without going as low as the FE...then the economy still might be that fit. FE is for low budget, Economy for medium-semi pro budget...and Extreme for the big dogs.

- Kyle

Kyle, quit freakin' out, my friend :)

The Economy is still going to give you a great picture. I am still blown away with the latest version of the FE so I think you are going to be happy no matter what.

Not freaking out :P Just seems that some people say a certain adapter isn't even usable where others say its great for there needs. Kinda tough to make a decision...

My situation is I want to shoot a feature in the spring. Not overstylized DOF but with a standard 35mm POV look 14-16ft dof range. I want the color to look like the real world, no CC except to get nice rich color. Just making sure im not going to wish I spent the extra money later. Not freaking out just watching out for #1 by asking everything I can :)

Thanks for the input though because its exactly what I need to hear. Extreme is the best no doubt but if you say the Economy will work very good and I wont have big problems, I take that for face value.

- Kyle

So, the only form of customer service as of now is through email?

Just shoot an email to him. I guess I will be waiting a while.

No need. Just got the reply :)

I'm living overseas and it wasn't a critical inquiry so I didn't want to inccur the cost of making an international call.

Another thing to CLEAR up

There are 2 sites where I can place my order from. LetusDirect and The Adapter Place. They are both official? Any comments on the service? (allright, maybe I just need help to pick one ;) )

To calrify...
AdapterPlace.com is the site Quyen and Hien run
LetusDirect.com is the official re-seller of the Letus35 adapters. We work directly with Quyen and Hien

Ordering from either site will net the same results. LetusDirect.com was started to help take some of the customer service and order management load off of Hien and Quyen so they can focus on production and development.

Either way you are getting an amazing product. I'm just proud to be part of getting these adapters out in the wild and can't wait to see what film makers produce with them.

Hopefully that clears things up. If you have any specific questions / concerns, please don't hesitate to shoot me a PM.

I just finished ordering a Letus Extreme from DeGrey at LetusDirect.com.

DeGray has answered all of my questions and concerns. Even after sending him a dozen PMs and emails, he is still quick to respond and VERY helpful!

Thank you Quyen and Hien for a great product. Thank you DeGrey and Letus Direct for a smooth transaction and for taking the time to answer my questions.

I also just ordered an Extreme from letusdirect.com, and after having a bit confusion using paypal, Aaron (DeGrey)from letusdirect was a big help. I definitely can recommand this site and their service. Aaron (DeGrey) also answered all my questions, offered help in any way and made me as a customer feel safe and supported about my purchase.

Thanks to the Le brothers and thanks to Aaron (DeGrey) at Letusdirect.com!

Which one is "not usable"? There's feature films being made with the M2, and a whole lot of fans of the Brevis and SG Pro on these boards doing great work.

There may be some minor brands out there that have issues, but of the "big four" that I can think of off the top of my head, I certainly wouldn't say any of them are "not usable"! Granted I won't work with the upside-down thing, it's not worth the hassle to me, but that doesn't mean the products don't work -- they do work and they work very well -- but that workflow isn't my cup of tea, and now that there are rightside-up adapters I'm pretty much to the point where I can't imagine unbolting the Letus Extreme from the HVX.

When you're trying to decide, it may come down to just a couple of questions:
1) do you mind the upside-down factor? and
2) spinning or vibrating or static ground glass

If you need rightside-up, right now that means a Letus adapter, and soon it means the option of going with the Brevis flip module.

Vibrating vs. spinning is another choice; the M2 is spinning, the Letus is vibrating, and the Go35 is static I think. Each has its peculiarities, there is not any set/specific "right" answer.

Extreme is the best no doubt but if you say the Economy will work very good and I wont have big problems, I take that for face value.

Well, until someone tests an Economy we won't know for sure. The custom condensor in the Extreme is apparently giving sharper edge-to-edge performance with little to no vignetting/hot-spot issues. The Economy also has a condensor lens in it, IINM, but not the same one.

For me personally, the Extreme was my choice because:

- image right side up ( no way I would want to deal with anything else )
- the little light loss
- the sharpness of the Extreme ( plus many other things :) )

and that was the end of discussion.

When I said not usable that wasn't what I thought...I just mean thats how people act. If its not an M2 then it sucks or if its not this your footage will be terrible. That kind of attitude. Ive seen awesome footage from them all which makes the decisions tough though. I need to make sure I make the right decision the first time. It would be an easy thing to weed out if I could get my hands on one of those things and try them out for 20mins LOL. Nobody around me owns a 35mm adapter that I can get ahold of...so really getting to see what the Brevis, M2, etc. would do is hard to say. Even if I got the extreme I wouldn't be sold until I got the first footage in my NLE and watch it, it always feels like a gamble to me.

I'm anxious to see some Economy footage to see how it holds up next to the extreme. Even if its worse...how much worse lol?

quote from letusdirect.com - "The industry's new leader in light efficiency with only 1/2 stop of light loss! If you are looking for the most affordable 35mm lens adapter, you have just found it. This plastic version offers almost the same image quality as the Extreme. If you want the absolute best, however, we highly recommend the Letus35 Extreme."

Ide say thats misleading...if the Economy has worse edge to edge sharpness and problems with hotspots I wouldn't call them close at all...especially when you look at their details page and find the same specs listed as in the extreme's page such as "best edge to edge sharpness in the industry."

Making things more clear for those trying to REALLY compare would be nice ya know? The ultimate question is just how much worse is the Economy's image from the Extreme's...until we can get real footage I guess thats completely unknown.

Bummer,

- Kyle

Be careful about putting words in a mouth where they didn't come from though... I mean, just because the Extreme uses a different/custom condensor, that doesn't automatically mean the Economy will be plagued with hotspots and have edge-to-edge sharpness problems! It may be a case of: Extreme = 100%, Economy = 98%. Only Quyen or Hien could really answer.

Both Steven and I thought the L35FE was absolutely fantastic for the price; I can only assume that the Economy will be notably better. My guess (and it's only a guess) is that the Economy will perform much closer to the Extreme than it does to the L35FE.

We've talked a few times about trying to get the manufacturers to send us some adapters to do a controlled comparison test. For the most part the response was "uh, no thanks." And frankly I don't feel like shelling out the $4,000 or so it'd take to buy each one in order to do an appropriate examination of them all, side-by-side, using the same lens on each, using the same camera with each, controlling the light and circumstances so that any differences are solely attributable to the adapters themselves.

The ultimate question is just how much worse is the Economy's image from the Extreme's...until we can get real footage I guess thats completely unknown.
Well, see, no -- I mean, the initial premise of the question has you biased against the Economy. You don't ask how close the Economy's image is to the Extreme, instead you ask "just how much worse" it'll be. It's like you're expecting a huge drop down. I think it'll be much closer than that.

Secondly, you're saying it's "completely unknown." The manufacturer doesn't think so, and they're the ones who know. And they said they're very close. Of course, taking a manufacturer at their word is not always the most wallet-healthy thing to do, but in this case they're comparing their own product against their own product, so it seems like a safe thing to rely on.

Sounds like Kyle would complain if we hung him with a new rope. Letus makes claims. So what. They're marketing their product, which happens to be really, really damn good as determined by people much smarter than you or I.

So if you like what you hear and see, buy one. It really is simple.

Dang. In a span of hours the wait time went to four weeks? That's funny, cause yesterday it was like 14 days, then today it jumped to 3 weeks.

That'll learn me to wait!

I'm at the 3 week mark.

It's very close Kyle. So close that you almost cannot notice. But we have to tell our customer because we know it is just a tad less light efficient.

Thanks,

I meant 4 weeks till i get mine. I top up another week because the customs will detain it (I'm sure). They don't call, just express post a custom detain notification letter so that will add 2 more days. I learn this when I ordered the Brevis and some lens in the past.

how do you guys know exactly how long it will be before you receive yours?

i purchased mine on the 26th, and i live in canada.

Thanks Hien. Barry, I don't protest anything your saying at all. I already previously stated everything you restated in previous threads or to the guys themselves when I called in. I know they're close, very close because thats what I was told. Saying how much worse it is and how close it is are the same thing because we all know the extreme is at the top. Say its 98% like you said, then its that much worse than the Extreme and its also that close to it. Its all the same thing lol.

Either way discussion on my part terminated, no grudges here ill just make the decision on my own I suppose.

None of them are bad products thats for sure, from everything I see they're the best so congrats to all those purchasing...im excited to see what your gonna do with them :D
