Letus/Zacuto support + Redrock follow focus?

I'm looking into getting a Letus with support from Zacuto, which is running me around $2,000, so I don't have much left for a follow focus. I noticed that Redrock makes a follow focus in the $600-$700 price range, but I wasn't sure if it would fit on the Zacuto support rods.

Has anyone ever used the Redrock follow focus with zacuto rods? what should I know?

yes it will fit on the Zacuto setup.
the Redrock FF is truly a great FF. I perfer it over the Chrosziel.

i'd save money on the support rather than the FF.

I disagree. I find myself seldom using my FF while the rod support is used all the time. Good rod support like the Zacuto or Letus are easy to set up and lower the rig overall which makes it a much more pleasant experience to carry around and set up, so skimping on it just isn't a good idea.

Also, in the past when I've rented a letus/follow focus, which came with 3 gears, some of my lenses don't fit with any of them. How do I find out what size gears I'll need?

95% of lenses will fit size gear A. Unless you have an unusually fat lens then that should be all you need.

Well, a cavision, cinevate, or yeah letus system, can do all that as well. I was worried that he'd go with some indian follow focus rippoff or something, but it looks as if he really isn't skimping on anything if he's getting the RR follow focus. But man 2 grand for a rod support.. I'd rather spend that money on a backup letus.

Carbon fiber is light, but the Cinevate system is ultimately still about raising the camera higher to accommodate the flip module, although it does have a high degree of adjustability.

I'm pretty sure the Zacuto is about $800 and the Letus is $700. And as far as I know none of the other rod systems out there can actually lower the camera like these two.

u sure? so that's less than 2gs for a zacuto system + Letus.. wow, that's not too bad a deal actually... oh wait a minute.. i think i know what the deal is. They're not zacuto rods, but the letus bundle.. just being purchased through the zacuto store...

David, you'll find reviews of our Proteus rails system (patent pending) over at FreshDV.com and also at Phil Bloom's blog. They are the only rails system in the world that allow you to adjust camera height with zero downward interference. This means that regardless if you're using them in standard or shoulder-mount mode with our grips, you can always balance your rig perfectly fore/aft. My opinion is of course biased, but our customers love the system. We have leveraged the design over to our Pegasus LTS systems as well as some very cool stuff coming at NAB :-)

Cheers,
Dennis.
