Letus Ultimate/ EX1 shorts

I think with the nozomi-shinkansen it`s about 1 hour and 20 Minutes from tokyo-station to nagoya station.

One thing that bothers me with the TOkyo piece is the skin tone looks burnt orange. Is that the EX's handling of skin tones or the color grading applied?

1/2" is crazy clean though!

As more as I see it my assumption is that as the spinning Ultimate allows you to stop down aperture on cam and on lens and also allows higher shutter speeds and this is the cause of sharper image along with it's spinning GG design when compared to "little bit not so planar" movement of the Extreme as I refuse to believe that the syringe/post type vibration principle allows as precise planar GG movement as spinning or leaf spring one...
... is the ultimate a little bit slower too?

Cheers,
T

No, it's not slower.

And, that's not why the Ultimate is sharper by any means. You can stop down the camera with the Extreme and reach 5.6 on the lens. By the time you're at 2.8 you're getting to the sharper part of the taking lens and 5.6 on the camera means better focus on the ground glass.

That mechanic doesn't change from the Extreme to the Ultimate.

My new short and first with the Ultimate prototype Mark 2 is online here: http://www.philipbloom.co.uk/Philip_Bloom/southend.html

Loads of info and what I used on my blog...

Philip:

Perhaps it's just my browser, but several of your clips are now loading from XR with a weird framing, a large black bar on the top 1/3 of the frame, but no bar on the bottom of the frame and perhaps 25% of the lower picture cropped out.

Never experienced this with your old server.

Firefox 2.00.14 on MBP, OS 10.4.1.

Thought you might not be aware of it. Or maybe it's just doing this for me?

yeah just noticed that on firefox. thanks for pointing out. It's a new embed code that I was trying out. It appears to only effect firefox it seems...Opera and Safari are fine, don't know about Windows IE yet...

The HD embed looks great if you try it on Safari.

I will sort it out Dan. Thanks again

footage looks realy good and sharp, but can anyone tell me if it's normal for the whites and highlights on the ex to look as blown out as the do. It seem everytime I see footage from the ex1, the whites look realy blown out, even when things seem properly exposed.

Can you point to a specific clip that shows this? To me once a highlight is blown it's blown. There's no more or less as the camera has simply given up trying to record information for that part of the frame.

Question about the Extreme. Should the Fstop on the camera always be 5.6 and then stop up and down on the lens? Also, I shoot with a 180 degree shutter. Is that optimal?

Not as simple as that, sometimes you need the camera wide open due to low light, sometimes you have nd as it is so bright. Stopping down on the 35mm lens affects the dof, stopping down on the camera doesnt
