Letus Releases Talon Series Shoulder Mounts

I really don't understand why companies keep pricing gear that costs as much as the cameras that they are designed to accomodate. I mean quaility is important but I don't think they understand the market that is buying DSLRs in the first place (i.e. very small budget filmmakers/independents who are spending in the hundreds not thousands these days).

btw, they are very nice looking rigs haha!

I'll give you $50 to make me one.

You think it's funny and the companies spend tons of money manufacturing these. The machining is simple especially on a CNC. Even the carbon fiber rods are dirt cheap if you buy them in bulk lengths and other materials are inexpensive.

The only reason they get priced like they do is because people will pay for them.

I'm finishing another specialty rig to use for a shoot that requires a lot of abuse. Still coming in at two pounds less batteries, preamp, recorder and mic and aside from the electricity used by the mill and manfroto QD mounts... $4.00 in aluminum.

No, I'm not going to make you one. Buy a mill and lathe, learn to do machine work and make your own, or just pay $1200.00 for one that's probably made in Uncle Wong's shoulder rig factory.:)

Or you can order it from the guy in Korea for about 1/4 of the price and just as nice ( I own one of those) and get the monitor mount for free...

I am still amazed at what some of these manufacturers get away with as far as price.

Actually, there are industry standards that said manufacturers follow. I'm pretty confident in Letus' equipment, enough to actually take them on jobs and rent gear to work with it.

It definitely sucks and looks bad when you rent a matte box or follow focus and they don't work with the camera or rails... Because there's an exact measure for height and distance for supports.

To each their own of course, but these guys know what they're doing and certainly know what market they are targeting.

That's exactly why I don't make them for other people Kholi. I can make them to the same tolerances but don't because I make mine to suit my own needs.
That wasn't the point though. It doesn't cost more to plug those tolerances in instead of some that are grabbed out of the air.

They're fairly simple devices as far as manufacturing and the cost is simply what the market will bear, not cost plus.

Quality is worth a few extra dollars and I think the companies that have strict quality control and standards should be able to charge for it. Some of the junk I see sold is horrible though, and they try to get close to what the reputable companies charge.

As far as buying from companies that just assemble Chinese parts...Chinese steel is Chinese steel. Not worth a damn on tractors or gun barrels or camera rigs. Chinese Rubber is Chinese Rubber....Etc.

Anyway...that's going off the topic of this manufacturer and as you said, to each his own. We pays our money and we makes our choice.
