ok, I have been hoping to upgrade to an EX1/EX3 sooner but money has had to go to other places. I'm still planning on purchasing one of the 2 Sony EX Cams.

This is my question:
I have a DVX100a right now and want to purchase a Letus 35 Extreme that will work with both DVX and EX. I searched everywhere trying to clarify what exactly I would need to buy.

What would I need for add on's for the Letus Extreme for the DVX to start....and then when I do upgrade, what will I need to purchase to make the change?

I probably made this question longer than I needed!! ...I really appreciate any input on this.

The DVX has 72mm threading whereas the EX has 77mm threading. Letus has made a special optimization kit for the EX series of cameras.

So what you need is two different threaded mounts. One for the DVX and one for the EX. Then when you finally got your camera you'd need to purchase the EX optimization kit (~$200).

I'd really recommend getting a good rails setup. Something that will last forever. I'd also recommend the Elite over the Extreme... but that's just due to the ease of backfocus adjustment.

Hope this helps. PM if you have any more specific questions.

Thanks Joseph, I appreciate the info....I did know about the difference in thread size but was concerned there was some optimization internally in the Extreme adaptor. I checked out B&H Photo and they have a few different configs available and I just wouldn't wanted to order the wrong setup.

I wish I could get the Ultimate but that is just not in my price range right now. ..but I just noticed the Elite like you suggest. I may go for the Elite too...I think I would regret not getting that.

Looks like adding the EX upgrade package and I would be good too in the future when I have that puppy! :)

Any suggestions for a good rail kit? ....I would at one point add follow focus and matte box so it def needs to be beefy and well made.

Thanks again!

I mean I have the hookup at Zacuto if you want it. They make some beautiful, sturdy, lifetime insured equipment. Really up to how much you're willing to pay. There's super cheap... to super ARRI expensive! So I guess what's your budget for baseplate and rails?

Checking Zacuto out again...they do have very nice gear. Slightly pricey but nice. I def want a good rail setup. I will have to see what I can swing.

I definately will let you know...I'm comparing a bunch and Zacuto looks to be the best in the that price range. I'm waiting for some tax money but doing my homework now. ...I'll PM you when I'm ready. Thanks again for the info.
