Letus Extreme and Sony EX1 test short

Oh I clicked on the wrong sentence. LOL

And LOL I can't find my jaw! Holy crap. Holy Noisefree image. Wtf?

Thanks for posting that Phil. It looks (and sounds) great!

Douglas, if you are still having trouble with back focus, please send me a PM or a message over at LetusDirect.

Excellent work Philip, to say the least.

This is very comforting. Looks like that image would hold up well with some poking and prodding. Looks like there'd be plenty of light for the adapter and a promist, etc.

thanks so much.

I'm suffering from Camera and 35mm adapter envy. The low light shots blew me away. Adding the larger chips (1/2 vs 1/3) with the .5 stop light loss of the extreme ( vs the FE) makes a world of difference.

I've watched this twenty times or so and it's extremely clean. The lowlight is mind-blowing to me.

Philip I'd hate to ask this, but do you think you could give us a 720p version of this?

Great stuff Philip!

Since you seem to shoot primarily doc/news footage I am wondering how you feel about the Letus vs the Brevis. I am on the verge of a purchase and I feel like the Brevis might give me more flexibility since I don't need rails. I can pop my Marshall monitor on top of my A1 and go. (I am led to believe you need rails for the Letus Extreme..)

Also, since you have done the your shootout and are familiar with most of the adapters, do you have a preference in ground glass versus diffusion element (Brevis).

I would love to hear your thoughts on this since you are clearly the most expert in the non-fiction workflow.

Thanks for posting!

just sickning! That low light capability is unreal. That letus ex and sony combo is probably the best looking footage in terms of sheer quality that i've seen.unless panasonic comes better with lowlight capabilties they may be in trouble.Still love my canon a1 though.

Thanks,

Yes the Letus is a heavy beast. I don't have experience with an A1 but I assume you need the Marshall to focus (the ex1 lcd is so good you dont need it!). The Brevis is very light and when the flip comes out will have even better picture quality as well as improved workflow. Until I try out the flip I couldn't tell you how heavy it was though.

Both adaptors are brilliant. One of my favourite looks is actually the CF2 from Brevis...the CF3 is amazing but almost too much as you need super super fast glass to make it work otherwise it looks very grainy. The Letus GG is great, until I do a side by side comparison it's hard for me to say for definate.

Thanks so much for the feedback.

I am interested in your thoughts on the improved image quality with the flip. Why would that be?

The Brevis is very light and when the flip comes out will have even better picture quality as well as improved workflow.

Also, I was curious as to what you used in the 'Homeless' piece to get that slight dolly-like movement.

Again, great work. I am really a fan.

The brevis works better with the flip as the increases the distance between the achromat and the GG which increased edge to edge sharpness.

To get the slight dolly like movement in the Homeless piece I was just VERY close to the subject using macro focusing which when you pan gives the impression of a dolly.

I have a 720p version, but I can't host it as my bandwith got almost used up yesterday and it is supposed to be 300gb a month! If anyone can help I would appreciate it!

Thanks

Hey Philip,

I could help you with some bandwith.
Contact me at aerialsfilm at gmail dot com and I'll provide you with some space.

Greetings,
Maxim

Philip, what is the color space of this camera? How does it handle reds? Also, the bokeh doesn't seem to have such a diffused look, did you have these lenses wide open?

You know, somebody was just on REDuser bashing DVXuser because they got banned from here for posting an ebay link...and it made me realize how wonderful a place this really is.

Here we have Philip sharing a new experience and his talent and then other talented and helpful people giving feedback and sharing bandwidth, etc.

Does it really get much better than this?

Philip-I look forward to more of your tests with the EX and adapters and just checking out your work in general.

Maxim-thanks for hosting the 720 version. I haven't watched it yet, but judging by Phil's other postings, I'm sure it's great.

Disjecta-I hope you get one of these cameras because we all know you can do some amazing stuff with it as well.

Best regards,

Jason

Thanks Philip. What I meant about the bokeh is that the quality of it is lacking the diffused look to it...which, in my mind, is better.

And just in case you didn't see my other question, I was asking about how the camera handled reds...I'm assuming about the same as the A1 given it's the same color space.
