Letus EX rails

My Letus shows up tomorrow and I still haven't gotten around to buying rails. What I'm wondering is if anyone is running 18" indifocus rails with their rig. Seems like an affordable option that will get the job done for what I'm doing.

Are there any similar options I should consider. Price is a big factor for me right now.:undecided

What's the word on Letus rail system?

It's pretty solid, although I would prefer a fully tool-less system. There's a full degree of adjustability here, but some of the screws that you have to loosen/tighten are blocked by the risers themselves, so it's a bit of a hassle. But once you've dialed it in, it works just fine. I think the Z-riser idea is probably superior, although at half the price the Letus is the best bang for the buck IMO.

letus rod support system is ok. it's relatively light, and pretty solid since everything gets bolted down. the fact that you need an allen wrench to assemble/disassemble/reposition the components is it's major weakness, as huy alluded to. i'm enjoying the modular nature of the system tho. took an extra letus support and a support bracket off one of the camera plate risers and put together a decent riser.

Henry, yours is one of the cleanest-looking setups I've seen. Most A1's with the LEX seem to be tilted upwards at an odd angle. I'm thinking about the Cinevate rods, hopefully I can duplicate a similar result as yours :)

EDIT: What kind of matte box is that?

gavin, the mattebox is from geardear. it's height adjustable, breaks down into 1/4" slices for easy transport, and weighs hardly anything (without filters).

the cinevate setup looks pretty cool. the letus components make it easy for me to slide the entire front assembly off and put it on another setup. here's basically the same front thrown onto a redrock baseplate.

Really like the Letus rods, got the cinevate ones before but it was a absolute nightmare getting the RedRock micro follow Focus on those. The carbon rods are not exactly 15mm so you end up twisting the night away getting anything on. Worst part was adjusting the FF for any new lens setup.

The Letus rods are simple and sturdy and this rig is strong enough to grab anywhere for "i wanna be a steadycam" shots.

This is how it looks with the Redrock FF:

When my Redrock micromattebox comes it will be easy to extend this setup as well.
With the sliding baseplate its easy to take apart, clean and / or take the camera off for handycam stil shoots. The main reason for buying this was the adjustable baseplate which makes it very easy to balance the whole setup.
