Letus 1/3" Relay Lens

Letus seems to be already delivering this relay lens...

Does anyone has it and using it with any Letus adapter -say Ultimate, Elite or Extreme- along with the HPX300?

Any comments, please?

Best,

Henry Epstein.

We recently got the Letus35 Extreme with a relay lens for our 300, but the relay lens in on back order and haven't gotten it yet. But we love the Letus.

Glad to hear that Jamski!
Please post your comments and videos as soon as you get the relay...
By the way, how are you testing the Extreme?
Cheers!

We are just using the stock 300 17x lens. It's a little cumbersome, but it'll do while we wait for the relay lens.

We only had it out once in the field, and we're still getting use to it. Focus is very difficult on the LCD with the Letus. We have a 17" field monitor ordered, but that, too is also on backorder.

I'm a little surprised that the relay costs almost as much as a 5D MII. But I guess that it what you get with the whole things get cheaper when you make thousands of them.

it probably has good lenses. lenses aren't cheap.

It better not be a good lens, it better be a great lens for the price. Letus seems like a quality company, so I doubt they'd be selling something that is crap.

Still think about how much most prime lenses sell for. This relay needs to have the optics of other $2,500 prime lenses, otherwise you're just paying for fashion & not function.

Well.... The letus ultimate is a beautiful example of optics. But, its build quality isnt what it should be... some see it as putting their money where it counts... but i dont like its loose tolerances.

My Letus 1/3" Relay and Letus Elite will be arriving on Monday. I don't have any prime lenses yet, but I will be purchasing some Zeiss lenses in the near future.

As soon as I am up and running I will be sure to post some footage of the Letus combo with my HPX300. I can't wait, I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas to come.

We've had the Letus B4 Pro 2/3" relay lens since March, along with the B4 Compact for testing. Both relays are very high quality with excellent edge to edge sharpness. The B4 Pro is very heavy, with 12 elements.

While the Compact is 90% of the quality of a Pro, we opted for the Pro due to it being slightly sharper with better contrast wide open and slightly faster. It looks fantastic with our HPX2700!

I have no doubt that the 1/3" and 1/2" relays will look very good. Letus has delivered on their promises and I see that their competition still hasn't delivered their relay lenses. It is expensive to develop these lenses, especially when quality is the prime objective.

it seems like the guys who own it, are more about shooting and less about writing haha

As I reported earlier I do have the Letus 1/3" relay and the Elite Adapter.

I wasn't able to afford any prime lenses for the relay/adapter until today. My 50mm Zeiss lens arrived today and I had a chance to put it all together and try some tests around the house. Unfortunately I am seeing some vignetting on the right side of the frame. I think that the ground glass on the Elite is mounted slightly too far to the left causing the slight vignetting on the right edge of the frame.

I'm not aware of any way to fix this without sending the Elite back to Letus. Does anyone have any suggestions? The relay has no zoom function, so I can't zoom past the area that is vignetting.

Edit to add: I spoke with Letus today and I was told to send the units back for a replacement. I will update this thread once I have the new adapters back and have a chance to shoot some samples.

Congratulations on your town's recent accolades! Please do keep us updated - I think more than a few owners are nervous about putting a completely bespoke additional $7k (before glass) on the HPX300. There are less than a handful of other cameras that will utilize the 1/3" relay, presumably with a Letus adapter as well, so the decision is a significant one.

Absolutely. I second that, Erik!
