I read a lot of threads about whether to shoot Normal, Squeeze, or letterbox 16:9 mode with DVX100B but I am still confused.

Can anyone out there who had experienced with all these modes tell me what would be the best one if I was planning to make the footage onto film or wanted to upgrade to HDCAM?

quality wise , what the real differences between all of these settings.

Thanx

Yo Willy, chill out. Everyone was asking this at one time, possibly even you asked at one time. I know I did. Normal is full screen, squeeze is anamorphic 16:9(widescreen, but it takes off the top and the bottom of the ccds and takes 75% of the chips, making it lower quality than normal or letterbox), letterbox is just black bars placed on the top and the bottom of a full screen ccd. So normal and letterbox are slightly higher quality than squeez. and squeeze looks like a cell phone when shot in 60i. So if you use squeeze, set it for thin and also 30 or 24p.

Check with the film out service you wish to use to see what they recommend. Or, test. There is a great differing of opinion on this topic. You have the camera, do some tests in both modes, shoot some footy, edit a little clip, render out to DVD, and watch it back.

I have used 4.3 and cropped and to tell you the truth I can't really tell the quality difference between 4.3 and squeeze on a HD T.V .
Maybe some guys here can But not my eyes .

Like it was mentioned try both and just stick with the one you like .

search and read. try both. i did all that and like squeeze better. when CCing the black bars are affected in letterbox and working 16:9 the whole time is nice. i suggest squeeze
