Letterbox mode

I understand that when the letterbox mode is on that part of the CCD is simply not being used but should that degrade the picture of the image that is between the black bars?

Ok, thanks but it seems that hardly anyone is concerned that the entire piture is degraded when the letterbox is on. I guess I will just try it in post to see if that looks better.

I think you got that backwards... there's nothing about the picture that's degraded when letterbox is on! In fact, the image area between the letterbox bars should theoretically look BETTER, because the DV compression algorithm can work a little more efficiently on the frame.
