Letterbox mode question

Is it possible to change the width of the black bars in letterbox mode or are they a standard fixed width?

I'm about to shoot a music video and know I can add the bars in post but I don't want to be bugged down with framing the shots to allow for headwidth, etc, so I thought letterbox would be better.

you can put some tape over the LCD screen where you want to put the bars in post. Do you mean width or height?

Thanks for the replies.

Do people generally use the letterbox mode a lot or do most people wait until post production to add in the bars?

It's better to add them in post for (at least) two reasons:

1) You can reframe the image if you want/need to.
2) Any effects or color correction will also get applied to the black bars if they are already present. (Yes, you can avoid that, but...)

Can anyone tell me why the letterbox mode isn't the same aspect as true 16:9 when in a 4:3 environment? Looks like pana would have matched the thickness, or width, of the bars to give the same "look". Not a fan of using it myself for anything, just curious why!

Has anyone here tried the Aspect Correct posted above? It looks like just the kind of thing I'm looking for, I just want to make sure people have had good experiences with it. Mostly I'm concerned about its ability to be reused. Does it come off the camera and go back on without losing strength?

I have the 2:35:1 overlay for the lcd and its awesome. And you can still see through the black bars and see your display.
