Letterbox in 1080i

In 1080i/24 format, I am bringing video from the hvx via firewire to my computer, and "log and capturing" it straight to FCP. Aspect conversion reads normal and can't be changed, however, I have a letterbox on the content I have log and captured and on the lcd screen while shooting. I am unable to remove the letterbox. I am having the same issue in 720/24p. Any thoughts?

Thank you.

Make sure your "Easy Setup" matches the format you used while shooting. Also, what version of FCP are you using?

Thanks for the response. I made sure and it does. If I go 480i/24p, the letterbox disappears. But I'm still having the letterbox issue in the other formats.

I did set up a new sequence. Could this be an issue of firewire vs. p2 card? When I am in 720/24p, I am unable to change my aspect ratio or the recording mode from dvcpro50 to dvcprohd.

Not sure if I'm asking a silly question (or this is a naive post)... Panasonic tech rep. says hd can only be shot in 16:9 aspect ratio, so that would mean it would have to have the letterbox. I just thought I had read other posts where people had mentioning adding letterbox to hd footage in post as an option. Thoughts?

Also, when I am in 1080i/24p or 720p/24p, recording mode cannot switch from DVCPRO50. I thought that DVCPRO50 is an sd format, not hd. Should I just assume the camera is recording in hd and you never have to manually change the recording mode to DVCPROHD?

Thanks again for any help on this.
