letterbox and 16:9

I recorded a film in letterbox mode but now i am having trouble outputting a 16:9 file. I cant seem to figure out how to do it in the export settings and then if i open in sorenson i can change the pixel aspect ratio but that stretchs the image too wide. How do i do this by cropping off the letterbox?

Apply a 3D and scale the vertical so that the black bars are no longer in the image. Then export and encode to MPEG2 as 16:9 anamorphic.

use a resize effect to scale your sequence vertically.

Apply the 3D effect from the Effects Palette, and scale on the vertical. You can also use the resize effect as Joe mentioned.
