Letterbox 100a vs. 100b - not the same

I just did a 2 camera shoot with a 100a and a 100b and both were set on letterbox. When I got into post I learned that the letterboxes aren't identical. The black bars on the 100a are slightly larger than the 100b bars. Thankfully it's not that big of a difference and I can get away with it. Just wondering if anyone else has had any experience or knowledge of this? I also thought it was info worth sharing.
 
I don't know why they would be different, they both should be converting the 4:3 footage to 16:9 by turning off selective pixels. They should be exactly the same.
