Let's hear some user feedback on the MixPre 3

BTW does the HDMI timecode sync and can then be unplugged or does the HDMI need to be connected continuously?

The MixPre-3/6 will only chase TC as long is it is coming from an external source. Neither model has an internal TC generator, so it cannot just jam once and be left to go on its own. For that, you’d have to move up to the MixPre-10T.

I've used the mix pre3 to record audio for video for the past year or so and I'm happy with mine. I've used it to record and to mix for a live event in a pinch. Couple things:

1. The sled for the sony batteries is kind of a pain to get off and if the little metal flaps in there get bent outta shape, they will no longer make contact with the mix pre and will no longer power it. If all of a sudden your device no longer turns on, start bending those flaps back into place. This happened to me literally 20 minutes before the procession of a wedding I was recording. Talk about nerve wracking.

2. I had an issue with the nob of my channel 1. It would no longer depress. I sent it out to sounddevices and they fixed it up and sent it back really quickly. Was nice dealing with them.

I noticed the same thing with the Sony battery sled, it's a weird way to connect to the recorder and feels "unsure" if it's connecting. Also, to remove the Sony batteries themselves from the sled, you push the button the opposite direction of the battery, unintuitive.

Today I tried to use the Mix Pre 3 to stream audio into a client's MacBook Pro via USB C for a Go To Meeting with three mics. Sounded great into the mixer but couldn't get the signal to the computer. Using a USB A to C adapter cable I had laying around from my Go Pro Hero 7, it streamed to my ancient MBP fine. But to the clients brand new $7,000.00 top of the line MBP, it wasn't recognized, didn't show up under audio options. It was the clients USB C to USB C cable, he said it wasn't an Apple cable so maybe that was it? Freaking gear, always some weird, esoteric and imprecise thing that causes gear to NOT work in front of a client when you are on a deadline. Disappointing, although I probably shouldn't blame the Mix Pre 3, it was probably the client's sub-par cable. I did prep the client that I just received the Mix Pre 3 and that we hadn't had a chance to do a dry run/rehearsal so we had a Bluetooth speaker and his MBP's mic so it worked so so, the audio from the three mics and the Mix Pre 3 would have been so much better though.
