let's crash cadillacs

here's a quick grab of a scene from last night's shoot.

we used three cameras shooting at 500fps and a varicam shooting at 60. the DVX provided coverage in case things went horribly wrong with the other equipment.

it blows out horribly once the car gets airborne - we probably had a little too much dust packed into the engine and had no way to meter that before the shot - but it's pretty sweet:

Re: let's crash cadillacs

Are you going to have to reshoot, or is the footage from the other cams usable?

Re: let's crash cadillacs

hahahaha. "the other cams"

Can you show us the footage from the DVX? Just curious.

Re: let's crash cadillacs

sorry yeah, that was the DVX footage. the other cameras output huge proprietary uncompressed files that will require some work to get into usable format.

He he! looks like you guys had some fun time. I can't wait to crash my 1992 Toyota Corola and my friends 1991 Mercurity Contour. They both look pretty good just that we are ready to donate them and I want to sooo badly crash them or blowthem up or somthing like it in front of my DVX.
;D

Re: let's crash cadillacs

heheh yeah it was pretty fun. the stunt driver said he'd set a personal best for distance. i'm gonna keep the high-speed stuff under wraps until the whole thing is done though. it looks so rad.

Re: let's crash cadillacs

Wow 95 THOUSAND fps?!

BTW, what happened to your cam operator? Was he in a safe distance?

Re: let's crash cadillacs

yeah, the car stopped about 12 feet from him, but it was definitely a little concerning for a few seconds, we couldn't see anything through all the dust.

i guess they have another camera that goes to 150k frames a sec. are there even that many frames in a second? dude i bet freaky **** happens, like you start to see the matrix or something.
