If anyone knows how to render as a progressive download or "fast start" movie let me know. My vegas 5 can not do it properly.
Thanks all!

hey man, the camera work was superb on this short, but it was lacking in story. cant say im sure what really happened. the kid was in detention, fell asleep, dreamt about a chick, the teacher saw he was asleep and started beating the hell from him? whatever happened i was quit impressed with the technical side of it, the cinematography was awesome.

nice choice of music... i'm a big fan of almost anything that comes out on constellation records. The color for the video was great, especially the shots with the bikes.

i dled that at 1.56mb/s! i liked it.....although i thought the train shot didn't need to be there. seemed very random compared to the other shots in the video.

I really liked the video. The dolly shots were beautiful but I felt some of them held too long. But overall the video is solid. I didnt get the story but who cares I was entertained. Good work

Thanks for feedback. The general theme is a teacher trying to enforce authority. If you have ever attended public high school and hated it, you will be able to empathize. Of course, visuals were my main concern i am glad you guys liked it.

Wow! Mine was 525k !

I have attended Public School and can emphasize. I learned at a far to early age that Teachers were full of **** and simply people working in dead end jobs. I had (and still have) an ability to percieve things and people for what they really are. It's a gift). Most teachers seem to be concerned with running an 'Orderly' classroom than actually interacting and teaching the children. And I wonder why California is ranked 49th in the NAtion as the worst in Education.

Sorry; nutha conversation.

I really really enjoyed this piece Dmitri. Damn. One thing I do that I know is wrong is never plan. I never take the time to actually engage in pre-production or Development of any kind.

And it shows. And I swear the very next thing I do, I will.

It's projects like this that remind me of what a well planned film can be when completed. I loved this. It had my attention from beginning to end. I agree; the coloring was peculiar; it made me wan't to see more. Can you share any insight on that? It appears to be more than a simple desaturation? It had a kind of Retro feel colorwise; almost a Catch Me if You Can Vibe but different...

The score was great; I'm Googling that now!

My subjective .02 ? Possibly reconsider the pacing through a different cut?

With a Minute and a Half of Credits I'd consider shortening the piece.

Anyway; not trying to tear it down; I loved it but as much as I did it felt a bit longer than need be.

Great job!

John thanks so much for your comprehensive input! I apologize for how primitive my server is; dreamhost just sucks! Minor color adjustments were done in AE 6.5 Color finesse and brought back into Vegas 5 for building. Most of the look i had planned in camera by adjusting chroma, white balance and detail frequency. Just like "revolution summer" i have been a long drone junkie of constellation records and post-rock genre in general. I have tried a variety of pacing alternatives and found this to work best. Perhaps i do seem stubborn in duration i just love slow pacing and flowing photography. Sorry if it was too long... John, I am also more than happy to hear you understand what i was getting at. It was rather inflated i guess, but that was the point.
Again, if anyone knows how to do a progressive download please let me know...
Thank you

Edit: wait what 1.5 mb! 500k??? Nevermind i misread, dreamhost is amazing! hah

I dug it man, and the pacing was great. Awesome imagery. I wasn't bored at any point, I was caught in it like it were a dream. good stuff.

man this looked great, music, colors, acting, camera work all was good.

how about the story i don't know if i get it or not. i thought ít was like a surreal simple story of a kid at school daydreaming about being with his girlfriend, the teacher gets mad at him for not paying attention and starts beating him, then the kid whoops the teachers ass and goes out riding the bike with his girlfriend.

or is it more complicated ?

i thought it was excellent! i thought the pacing worked very well; it lets the viewer feel the way the boy is feeling. i really liked the train shot. i remember sitting in school and contemplating ways of escape. im not sure if thats what you were getting at, but that is what it reminded me of. id love to see more of your work.

During school I used to stare at the window and want to jump out just to escape.. I would stare out into the parking lot and see my truck and see freedom.
I liked the video as well. When I saw the train it represented escape to me as well. I thought the initial attack was kind of wierd like he wasnt putting up a fight or defending himself.. I would have like to have seen some blood on the kids face after he got up... but maybe thats because I have been using it so much lately for another project...

Thank you for suggestions and comments! Yes, the boy is day dreaming of escape and of his loved one. Train sequence does symbolize his escape and bicycle scene stands to contrast between his dim existence in school and his dreams about a well-beloved girl. The reason i disregarded everyone else in the classroom is to show how character feels when he finds himself in a class. Everything in the film but the teacher/student scene is a dream. So no, after he beats down the teacher he doesn't go out to ride his bike. Hah that would be kind of bad ass i agree but that isn't what i was shooting for. These are just the images that are going on in character's head while he takes mad revenge on Mr.Teacher...
Oh about blood, i didn't want to get the white floors dirty! haha Thanks!

yup, I must agree, this was a GREAT piece my friend! I really loved the cinematography and concept entirely. Some blood on the floor would of been great but obviously wasn't needed.

Bravo!

Thanks coffee! I didn't use blood because it would make a mess. The school allowed me to shoot but i gave them a completely different script. If they saw what i was actually shooting i would be terminated. So in case someone was to enter the room at least there would be no blood. Although i now see it might have had a greater effect. Thanks for input.

Def. had a very surreal feel to it. I really like the music choice as well. Congrats on a well thought out piece.

Hey. At those download speeds it may not be an issue, but to answer your question anyway: select "FAST START" in the encoding process.

Cheers, Marius.

I did just that! I exported out as quicktime set as "fast start" and it still doesn't prebuffer. What is the compressed header option in vegas? anyone?

Great Short! I really enjoyed it. And as far as your question with Vegas I cant really help you there cause I use premiere, but I do agree with Marius in setting the encoding to "fast start", but since you've done that, I'm out of idea's. Hope you figure that one out.

I do however have a quick question if you don't mind, How did you get the 479x204 pixel size to work out for your short film. I've been trying to gather information on this forum on how to make my videos look "wide" like yours and many others I've seen. I use letterbox mode with the dvx100a and shoot 24pa. Maybe you can help me out with the confusion.

Thanks and once again GREAT JOB!!!

-Daniel
