I just read a comparrison between the HVX and DVX and got more confused as I discovered the DVX is better in low light than the HVX.
DOES THAT MEAN if you shooting with the HVX in SD mode that it will still be worse than the DVX in low light. I really hope not .. help!!?
I can't imagine why Panny would make a camera that shoots in SD and HD but make it worse in SD mode from it's predecessor the DVX?
clarification please?

OK.. I may have found my answer for previous threads...
It appears that the DVX is stronger in the light department and a bit sharper than the HVX shot in DV/SD mode.
Sh*t... not really what I wanted to hear. There will be times when I just want to shoot in SD and was looking forward to receiving all the wonderful attributes of the picture quality of the DVX.
cheers.

I don't think so. Because the HVX does the recording and all internal processing in 1920x1080, no matter what format you are shooting, and only resizes on output as Barry pointed out. So the SD footage should really be sharper, with better colour than the DVX. Just yesterday I shot DV with the HVX, as I still don't have a mobile HD recording solution, and this 25 MB SD DV footage really looks terrific. I also previously owned a DVX, but I don't have it anymore. Does anyone have stills of both for comparison? You also should set the sharpening and details setting alike.

HVX in 16:9 is significantly sharper than DVX in 16:9.

HVX in 4:3 is about comparable to DVX in 4:3.

DVX will always be a stop faster than HVX.

HVX looks like it has up to 1 stop more dynamic range than DVX.

HVX HD recorded on the cards, and downconverted to DV in-camera, is softer than DVX DV.

HVX DVCPRO50 spanks DVX DV in both 4:3 and 16:9.
