let there be light?????

I just read a comparrison between the HVX and DVX and got more confused as I discovered the DVX is better in low light than the HVX.
DOES THAT MEAN if you shooting with the HVX in SD mode that it will still be worse than the DVX in low light. I really hope not .. help!!?
I can't imagine why Panny would make a camera that shoots in SD and HD but make it worse in SD mode from it's predecessor the DVX?
clarification please?

First of all this is in the wrong forum really.

But the answer is based on physics. The CCD that picks up light is more dense on the HVX to create the extra pixels need for HD. The smaller the pixels the less sensitive they are to light, thus the HVX is less sensitive than the DVX. Short of having switchable CCDs in the camera there is no way to have the camera be more sensitive in SD mode when still acquiring the image from a HD CCD.

The real kicker for me is how the HVX is such a poor low light performer compared to the H1 or the Hd100. Panasonic chose to go with less pixels on CCD than Canon or JVC and use pixel shift to create the necessary resolution for the remainder of the HD chain. The reason was for better low light performance and better latitude. However it appears to have the worst lowlight performance of the bunch. The latitude is very nice however.

Overall I feel they sacrificed true CCD resolution for better low-light and latitude but didn't really pull it off well. Meanwhile Canon has a very high res CCD and lower light capabilities that are far beyond the Hvx. However the HVX does seem to have better latitude than H1.
