Let The Right One In

Mark Harris

Pain in the ass
Or, Mark Harris eats his hat!

I searched, but it told me these terms were too vague to find the thread.

Beautiful film. I mean the Swedish one. Have not seen remake. But this film was absolutely great, and brought some fresh life to a dead (no pun intended) monster genre. Great performances from the kids.

Also showed remarkable self-control with the effects. The end scene was so reserved, yet completely floored us.

After hearing about the remake "Let Me In" I went and bought a DVD of the original Swedish film "Let the Right One In."

Its very intriguing, though not highly polished. The lack of polish is its own charm, and it has pacing not found in America's craze for teenage crash and bang films.

What I most liked about it was that it made you think.

SPOILER ALERT do not read if you haven't seen the film:

In the end I concluded that the girl's 'father' was her lover. He, like a string of others, fell in love with her when he was young.

He killed himself because he realizes he has been suplanted. He has gotten older, while she has not because she is undead. In the train, at the end, I saw that as the fate of the new boy.

Surprise you're just now seeing this Mark, it was a popular thread last year or so. But the film was amazing. I've heard about the re-make coming out and was so pissed!!! But an interview came out with the Original Writer of the Book and he said the Sweedish Version is a great sweedish film and the American Version is a Great American Film, that was his own quote, so if the original source is giving it thumbs up then I might see it, because we all know writers can be very critical of their work on screen. Of course unless he signed a contract not to bash the film LOL!

But don't want to judge it before I see it, but I doubt the American version will live up to the Sweedish one, I hope I'm wrong though... And here's the original thread. http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?153413-Let-the-Right-One-In&highlight=vampire

Duke, you've given me a whole new perspective base on your conclusion of the ending, never thought about that, but it does make a little sense, I'm gonna have to watch it again and look for subtle hints about the Father?.

** possibly a spoiler, this info does not directly affect the film plot ***

The other hidden gotcha is the phrase "I am not a girl"
she doesn't mean vampire, she means she is/was a boy. hence the shot of her genitals .. a castrated boy
you can see this theme in the casting, androgyny, a boyish girl, a girlish boy
