"Let the right one in" Sound

I watched this movie recently and I liked how the audience could hear the lightest sound. It added a tension to each scene, is this something that is done in editing, basically how is that kind of sound acheived? Thanks.

Without having seen this film, or hearing what you heard, I'm tempted to say that they were very careful and intent when they went through foley.

Yes it would be editing. But also mixing. Most "Hollywood" films have very thorough FX and Foley coverage, you just usually don't hear much of it because music and dialog are so dominant in most mixes. Oh and don't forget time. To do that level of coverage takes 10-15 man hours per screen minute (in editorial) and then usually two to three weeks in the mix.
