Lenses...

Hei everybody, I'm a film student and I've finally decided to buy the 5D (now that the firmware is out - I live in europe, so 24/25 was essential), I would like to have some feedback about what lenses to purchase with the camera, having in account that I plan to shoot short-films and music videos. I have already two lenses in perspective;

Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM

Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM

but I would like to know wich ones do you recommend. I wouldn't like to spend more than 2,000 euros in lenses, so any input on that budget would be most welcomed. Also, is the canon EF 24-70 F/2.8L better than the EF 24-105 F/4L? I know it's one stop down, but how about the actual quality of the image?

Thanks in advance

For video, I don't think you should care that much about lens image quality. Checkout some of Barry Green's articles on moire for more details, bit the short of it is that sharper lenses can potentially induce MORE moire artifacts. I've experienced this personally as well.

Between the two, here are some things you should consider:

f2.8 on the 24-70 is a big deal. F2.8 saved my butt on multiple occasions in both stills and video scenarios.

IS on the 24-105 is a big deal. Handheld at anything above 50mm is pretty hard for me, but IS makes it look easy.

Basically, I think you should make a decision based on whether IS or f2.8 is more important to you, not the absolute sharpness of the lens.
