While I've been working with DV for a while, the truth is I don't really know much about the technical side of things or camera lenses.
I've searched google but not found what I am looking for. Is there a guide on the internet that explains in detail focal distance, fstops/iris, etc. etc. and how to read/understand what this is talking about, with pictures demonstrating concepts?
Also an explanation of gain, the DB range, boosting, LUX, etc.? And other specifications?
I'd really like to fully understand what things mean when I read a spec sheet. For example,
Leica Dicomar 13 x Zoom
4.2 mm to 55 mm f/1.6
(35 mm Still Film Equivalence 32.5 to 423 mm)
82 mm Filter Diameter
^^ The only stuff that means anything to me there is the 13x optical zoom, but even that I do not fully understand where they get "13x" from. I understand because I have used a 20x and 10x optical zoom. The 82mm diameter is the threading for attatching a filter or adaptor.
Other than that I don't understand it.
Also I'd love to understand what exactly 1/8 ND, 1/64 ND are; I know one stops more light, but where do the numbers come from and what do they mean?
0-18db gain selection - what does this mean? 3 LUX - where does this come from and what can I compare it to?
Anyway if someone would be so kind as to explain or link me to a thorough and good explanation I would be VERY grateful.
Thanks for your time.
