Lenses for Gimbals - Sony A7SII

Quick question. I have a Movi M5 and typically run a Sony A7SII on it. I just wrapped up a project that had a lot of Movi shots in it and most of them were done with a Canon 16-35mm 2.8 lens on a Metabones adapter (not SB). I have read where wider lenses were great on gimbals because they help make the shots look even smoother, which I will agree is the case here, and because they help give a more forgiving depth of field. Some people I know even run a Rokinon 14mm on their rigs. BUT, when I ran my Canon at 16mm, it was wide enough to show some distortion on the sides of the lens. I am afraid that if I put it at 35mm, I will have a much harder time maintaining focus because it will provide a shallower depth of field. My question to you guys then is this: What lenses and what focal lengths do you typically use on your gimbals to help with depth of field and smoothness with the shots?

I use the Sony Zeiss 16-35mm with AF on a one handed gimbal for doc work. I'll playblack to make sure I got the shot but most of the time it works.

I'm planning on getting that gorgeous 18mm Batis just for the gimbal. Don't know when they will ship though.
