Lenses for F3

Hi --

Just joined the forum, my first post!

I'm a current Ex1 shooter and I just put down a deposit to purchase the F3. I'm currently looking at lens options. The RED 17-50mm seems like a great value -- I'm wondering if any F3 shooters here have shot on this lens and enjoyed the results? Is it a workable lens for run and gun type shooting without a focus puller or does the size of the lens make mattebox, rails and a shoulder-rig a must?

Thanks in advance!

In my view I would counsel you to not get rid of your EX1 if you do run & gun / ENG style work.

+1 - I keep saying the F3 is complimentary to the EX1, not a replacement. They fill different niches.

Large sensor cameras are hard to keep in focus during run and gun. OTOH the EX1 is hard to create a narrow DOF for narrative work.

I am not planning on getting rid of my EX1. Obviously there's some things it can do that the F3 cannot and vice versa. I'm looking to transition from run & gun / ENG type shooting into narratives and commercials, so for the time being, I'll need both cameras in my arsenal.

I am curious though if the RED 17-50mm is a viable option to use on the F3 without a substantial rig to support it.

I am placing an order for the 17-50 tomorrow. based on pics of the Digioptical 18-50, it looks like its not much bigger than the sony prime lenses. so I am assuming you can get away without much rail support. the 18-85 is a total different beast though (again, based only on pictures). I am excited to place my order though, should be a great addition.

Straight bar is not vignette that's for sure. It's probably the edge of your matte box in the frame. Or a filter frame.
Vignetting shows only in corners since lenses have round (glass) elements and project a circle...
