I just ordered a Nikon 28-70mm f/2.8 AF-S aka "The Beast". I plan on using it on my AF100 w/ the Novoflex adapter as my Interview Lens. As this lens comes in at about 2 lbs I assume it will need to be supported. Can anyone recommend a reasonably price support that will mount on my 15mm rods.

Thanks,

I prefer that to my Redrock one.

The Redrock unit is kind of ugly engineering and its a little bulky. eg the bracket on the rails is needlessly thick.

Go for it.

Zacuto's is pricey, but nice. It can be popped off the rails without removing anything else. Works well for me.

Actually, I don't think of it as supporting a $1K lens, rather protecting the lens mount of a $5K camera. But that said, the one in your link should do the trick just fine.

We use the Nikkor 28-70mm, & 24-70mm, regularly without lens support, & have had zero issues. If we add a matte box then we support the lens.

Skuzzle, I am taking your lead here as I am in the same boat on price.

I like your $38.00 lens support, what I am wondering is what you're doing for the base plate and rail system? Are you using Zacuto or going with the cheap China stuff for that as well?

Does a 2 lb. lens really need support? That's pretty light as zooms go.

Yes, it does. Especially when you include the weight of the (necessary) adapter as well. Together they unquestionably exceed the weight rating of the AF100's mount.

And you'll DEFINITELY want support if you're going to pull focus with it...

Tyrant,

I have the Indiesystem - indiRAILSpro 12". I can't say I'm in love with it, but for $99 it get's the job done. It's ugly and a bit of a pain to take on and off the camera, but otherwise it's a solid piece of kit. Holds up my Croiszel Mattebox, RedRock follow focus & lens support with out any issues.

The real star here is the lens support. I do love this cheap little china mount. Does just what it's supposed to do.
