lens ratio

guys think a SQUEEZED 16:9 would yield good anamorphic results, or is the Pana 16:9 lense still the best way to go?

Re: lens ratio

Well, "best" depends on your intended usage. (let me clarify: by "squeezed", you mean the DVX100A's internal squeeze 16:9 mode, right?)

If you want to use autofocus, the DVX100A's squeeze mode is definitely the way to go.

If you want to use a wide-angle or telephoto adapter, the squeeze mode is again the way to go.

If you want to do it the cheapest way possible, squeeze mode is again the way to go.

If you want the easiest run 'n' gun solution, the squeeze mode is the way to go.

If you want to use conventional matte boxes and filters, etc., squeeze mode is the way to go.

If you want the highest-resolution picture, the anamorphic adapter is still king. If you're aiming for the big screen, the anamorphic adapter will still provide about a 20% increase in resolution over the squeeze mode (theoretically -- obviously I haven't tested it yet!) Maybe I'll bring my anamorphic adapter to DV Expo and try it side-by-side (if they'll let me, but usually they do). I expect the anamorphic adapter to still deliver the best image, and until proven otherwise, I'd still plan on using it for my shoots.

Re: lens ratio

i believe that the comparision site actually belongs to barry_green (above).. who uses the adaptor, and attests to its superior quality as noted above.
i also must point out that the sharpness of the adaptor is at its weakest when used at full telephoto as seems to be indicated in the top right example. barry has since done many helpful experiments which prove the superiority of the adaptor. I myself also use it , and have never really been limited by it, and am very happy with the results to date.
