Lens Mount Cross Reference

Does anyone know where I might find a cross reference chart that shows what type brand lens can be mounted to different camera brands?

I have a new 5D and I am starting my collection of prime lenses. I have a EOS/Nikon adapter and have my first lens which is an older non AF Nikon 50mm 1.8. I was told that there are a series of Russian lenses available of high quality and good price. Is there a key reference that I should look for if they don't specifically say Nikon mount.

You can adapt a number of lenses to EOS mount. But you'll be safe sticking to the Nikon mount or any M42 mount (aka Pentax mount). This was the common mount for a great many lenses in the 60s and early 70s. And there are a GREAT many manufacturers of these lenses. If you do an ebay search for M42 lens, you'll have a TON of hits. They all work with a simple adapter.

this is not the whole story, but as a minimum it helps:

the focal flange distance of the lens has to be longer than that of the body, otherwise you can't focus at infinity (it's as if you're using macro tubes)

I have some M42 and leica-R lenses which are absolutely awesome; the leica-R ones would work on nikon too, but the M42's won't (I didn't expect Nikon to get their act together anytime soon, and I'm already regretting that my lens collection may restrict my body options)
