Lens Hood Advice?

Hey there, I'm about to purchase a used AGDVX100b, but I just found out from the seller that the lens hood is not included. Apparently she has used a UV filter since she bought the camera and lost the hood.

I'm fairly new to this grade of camcorder and am wondering how important the stock hood is. If I find down the road that I need the hood, (I'll be shooting in a variety of settings) would any 72mm hood do the trick? I haven't been able to find the stock model for sale anywhere.

Also, I find it rather strange that you have to take the hood off to use filters. Is this a common thing?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Regards,

The hood reduces alot of glare, it also provides protection for the lense

try looking for a hood on ebay

I understand the function of the lens hood, but I keep reading about the importance of a UV filter...
If you can't use both, which is more important?

Ebay was the first place I checked. They have a few 72 mm hoods, but none are wide like the stock. I'm worried it would vignette.

id say uv filter is better - unless you dont think your safe with your camera

well just make sure its not just the picture

I like the lens cage on the DVX - since I film skiing, mine comes into contact with things it probably shouldn't and the cage is their to save my baby.

Whether or not you use the lens cage depends on how you're using the camera - I have a cheap little UV filter on mine to protect the lens at all times, and the cage goes on with that. However, when I set up my 35mm rig, the cage comes off. It also comes off when I put on my bayonet wide angle. Basically, I have it on as much as I can.

Try calling Panasonic or a dealer somewhere to see if you can procure an extra one. Shouldn't be too hard to find, I'm sure you could buy one from Panasonic. Try contacting Jan Crittenden (sp?) on here, she seems to be helpful with DVXusers and their Panasonic related issues.
