Lens Flare, to the average moviegoer.

For all of you that have the Star Trek DVD and haven't watched the behind the scenes, do it. It's hilarious. JJ Abrahams actually hired people who's job was to hide off camera and shine flashlights into the lens. Abrahams said something to the effect of "You can never have enough lens flares" :D

I'm a fan of them myself, but they have gotten a bit ridiculous lately.
