Lens coating chipping?

Howdy - I own a first gen HVX200, had it since March 2006. I've always cleaned the lens exclusively with either Pancro or Rosco solutions. Always used Rosco tissue (except for a brief flirtation with Kodak which lasted a day)

About a month ago I noticed the lens coating had some minor chips in it. Today it comes back from a rental and I thought it was scratched - cleaned it and the emulsion started coming away like wet paper.

Anybody else with an older HVX (or DVX?) experiencing similar problems?

Anybody know of any solutions/repair options (other than the $800 full lens element replacement currently available in NYC)?

It was showing signs of it prior to the rental (just a few very small chips).

Seemed like using lens solution (rosco) yesterday was making the problem worse - small chips showing up where no chips were, existing chips growing into streaks. I haven't needed to clean the lens that often (other than air) cuz it's usually got either a lens cover or an adapter in front of it.

So I wondered whether it was just cuz the cam was old and has seen some action. But if it ain't happening to anybody else, then that's good. For you. For all of you. But not for me. So sad for me.

Damn.

I have only cleaned the lens twice in the last year. I get really nervous about cleaning a fixed lens.

Two years is not a very long time.

Maybe Barry knows... is there a suggested cleaning solution for the lens? I'm thinking it has to be one of them that's causing problems.
